Seven Years Broken Chapter 08
Deanna’s body trembled. She stared at her stomach as if frozen.
“The child… isn’t Darren’s? How is that possible?”
At her words, Darreni’s face shifted in panic. He hurried to defend himself, “Deanna, don’t listen to him! The baby is mine. He’s just trying to drive a wedge between us!”
I didn’t spare them another glance. I had no interest in hearing their excuses. I turned and walked straight out of the courtyard.
After I left, everything inside descended into chaos.
It was as if my words had snapped something in Deanna. All reason left her. She rushed up to Darren and grabbed
him.
“Darren, tell me the truth! Is the baby yours or not? Say it!”
Darren winced from her grip, but he still refused to back down. “Deanna, have you lost your mind? Of course, the baby is mine! Corey’s just jealous of us. That’s why he said that!”
“Jealous?” Deanna let out a cold laugh. “You think I’d still believe you?
“No wonder something felt off before. You were always avoiding my calls, always insisting the lights be off when we were together. I thought I was overthinking it… But now I see you were hiding something all along!”
Darren’s expression turned ugly. He quickly pretended to feel unwell. “I… I don’t feel good. I need to go.”
He rushed out in a hurry.
Deanna didn’t waste a second. She immediately mobilized every resource she had and pulled Darren’s movement logs and communication records from the past six months.
What she found made her blood run cold.
The records showed that aside from seeing her, Darren had been in frequent contact with several other women. Two of them had even visited his private suite at Blackline Club, staying for hours at a time.
What broke her completely, though, was a hospital report. It showed that Darren was infertile.
“That’s impossible! That’s absolutely impossible!” Deanna stared at the documents in her hands, on the verge of losing her mind.
When Harold heard the news, he was so furious that he raised his cane and struck at her. “You disgrace! Look at what you’ve done!
“For some shady man, you’ve dragged the Cunninghams into this mess. Are you trying to destroy us completely?!”
“Grandpa, it’s not me. It’s Darren! He lied to me!” Deanna’s voice shook with anger. “The child I’m carrying isn’t his at all! He’s been fooling around with other women, and somehow got me pregnant with someone else’s child!
“I must have been blind to ever trust him!”
At her words, Harold’s breath hitched. He clutched his chest and began coughing violently.
As for me, after leaving the Cunningham family estate, I went straight back to the Graham residence.
The moment I pushed the door open, I saw my parents, Richard and Isabel Graham, still sitting on the living room couch, clearly having waited for a long time.
The second I saw them, everything I had been holding together shattered. I couldn’t stop the tears anymore.
“Dad… Mom… I was wrong…” I dropped to my knees in front of them.
“I shouldn’t have gone against you back then, insisting on being with Deanna, even cutting ties with you over her. I’ve made you worry all these years.”
Mom rushed over immediately, pulling me up and holding me tightly in her arms. “You foolish child, it’s okay now. You’re home. That’s all that matters. I don’t blame you. Your father doesn’t either. We should have communicated better back then.”
Dad stood to the side, saying nothing, but his eyes were slightly red.
I leaned into my mother’s embrace, feeling a warmth I hadn’t known in years. All the grievance and pain I had buried finally found a way out. I cried for a long time before I slowly calmed down.
That night, I slept in my old room.
For the first time in a long while, I felt safe. I slept deeply, without a single dream.
Early the next morning, just after I finished washing up, my phone rang.
