Seven Years Broken Chapter 09
“Corey, it’s me…”
The call was from Deanna. I could tell from her voice that she hadn’t slept all night.
“I know I was wrong. I really know I was wrong…
“The Cunninghams can barely hold on anymore. The banks are demanding repayment, and all our partners have pulled out. Can you help me, just this once, for the sake of our seven years together?
“I know I hurt you before, but Darren deceived me, too. I didn’t mean for any of this to happen…
“Can we start over? I promise I’ll never have anything to do with Darren again. From now on, I won’t even look at another man. I’ll be completely devoted to you, I swear!”
I listened to her rambling pleas. There was no pity in me, only endless disgust.
“Deanna, whatever we had ended a long time ago. I’m not helping you, and there’s no starting over.”
I hung up without another word and blocked her number.
Then I called the legal department.
“Send the divorce papers to Deanna. Have her sign them. If she refuses, file a lawsuit immediately. I want this marriage dissolved as soon as possible.”
The legal team got back to me quickly. They said Deanna became extremely emotional after seeing the divorce papers. She refused to sign and demanded to meet me in person.
Lignored it. I told them to proceed with preparing the lawsuit as planned.
I thought she might drag this out for a few more days at most. I didn’t expect her to spiral this far.
A week later, that morning, just as I arrived at the entrance of my office building, I saw someone kneeling outside.
It was Deanna.
Her hair was disheveled. There was blood on her clothes. And in her hand, she was holding a fruit knife.
The employees nearby screamed in fear. Security rushed forward to restrain her, but she waved the knife wildly, forcing them back.
“Don’t come any closer! Anyone who does, I’ll fight you to the death!”
I looked at the knife in her hand and forced myself to stay calm. “Deanna, what are you trying to do?”
“What am I trying to do?” she laughed. “I’m trying to make you forgive me. You hate Darren, don’t you? I already got revenge for you.”
She paused, a strange hint of pride creeping into her voice. “I found him. He was still trying to lie to me, saying the baby was his. I snapped… and I killed him.”
She looked at me, smiling in a way that sent a chill down my spine.
“See? I killed someone for you. Doesn’t that mean you should forgive me now?”
