Seven Years Broken Chapter 07
When Deanna saw Darren like that, her heart skipped a beat. She hurried over to steady him.
“Darren, what’s wrong? What did your dad say?”
Darren lifted his head, his voice trembling. “My dad said the company’s about to collapse. The cash flow’s broken, and several major projects have been snatched away. He asked me what I’d been doing out here to cause such a disgrace, dragging the whole family down with me…
“He said if I can’t fix this, I shouldn’t even think about coming back to the Blackburns…”
The moment Deanna heard that, she panicked completely.
Before, she had thought that even without my support, she still had Darren and that the Blackburns would never abandon her.
However, now even a company far larger than Cunningham Group like the Blackburn Group was falling apart. In that instant, she realized she might truly be finished.
In her desperation, Deanna looked at me again, but this time, her posture was completely lowered.
“Corey, I was wrong. I lost my mind. I betrayed you. I’m sorry! Please, just forgive me! I’ll break up with Darren right now. I’ll get rid of the baby. I’ll cut him off completely!
“We can go back to how things were. I’ll treat you like I used to-no, I’ll treat you even better. Okay?”
As if to prove her resolve, she suddenly slapped Darren across the face. “If you hadn’t kept seducing me, how could I have done something so stupid and betrayed Corey?! There’s not a single thing about you that compares to my husband! I must have been out of my mind to ever get involved with you!”
Darren stared at her in disbelief. “Deanna, what did you just say?
“Didn’t you say before that this child was the treasure your whole family had been waiting for? That I was a hero to your family? That you’d treat me well for the rest of your life? How can you turn on me like this?!”
“That was before!” Deanna screamed, her voice breaking. “Look at the situation now! My company is being destroyed. Your family is collapsing. I’m not going down with you! We’re breaking up right now. Stop clinging to me!”
Watching them tear into each other, I felt nothing but irony. “Whether you break up or get married has nothing to do with me anymore. I already said it. All I want is a divorce.”
I looked at Deanna, my gaze cold.
“And, Deanna, everything you built on the back of the Graham family… everything you took from me-money, resources, everything you have now-you’re going to give it all back.”
Deanna’s face turned ghostly pale. Her lips trembled, but no words came out.
Mrs. Cunningham stood to the side, wanting to curse at me, but not daring to.
Seven years of marriage. Twenty years of friendship.
In the face of betrayal and lies, it had all become worthless.
I had nothing more to say. I turned, ready to leave this nauseating place.
“Corey! Don’t go!” Deanna suddenly broke down, screaming after me. “Even if the Cunninghams collapse, I won’t let the Grahams walk away unscathed! I gave you seven years of my life. Even if I have to die, I’ll take a piece of your family down with me!”
I stopped and slowly turned back, looking at her like she was nothing more than a clown putting on a show.” Deanna, do you really think you have that kind of power? You’re way out of your depth.”
I paused, my gaze sweeping over her pale face before shifting to Darren, slumped in his chair.
“And what makes you so sure that the child you’re carrying is Darren’s?”
