Imprisoned, Poisoned, She Took His Throne Chapter 05
In the days that followed, I became a compliant puppet.
I did whatever they told me to do. I served tea, mopped the floor, did the laundry, and even drank the milk laced with drugs without complaint.
Giulia took pleasure in tormenting me, humiliating me in all sorts of ways-making me kneel to put her shoes on, making me crawl on the floor like a dog to pick up the things she threw.
I took it all.
Because every night, when I returned alone to the servants’ quarters, I used the old cell phone hidden under my mattress to contact every former member of the Salerno family.
The first few people turned me down, until today, when I reached out to Tony, my father’s loyal consigliere.
“Principessa? Is it really you? We all thought you’d gone mad…” His voice was trembling.
“I’m not crazy. Luca drugged me, but lately I’ve been finding a way to vomit it up every day. Aside from some withdrawal symptoms, I’ve pretty much broken free from the drug’s hold.”
“That son of a bitch. Don Salerno treated him like his own son, and yet he dared to do that to you! What else did he do to you?”
I was silent for a moment. “He also made me have three abortions.”
Tony’s breathing grew heavy, as if he were suppressing his anger.
“Principessa, Vitale must pay.”
“Although the Salerno family is gone, there are still those who remain loyal to you. Don left you a stockpile of weapons. Say the word, I can set his casino on fire tonight and blow up his arsenal
tomorrow.”
“No,” I said. “That would be too easy for him.”
“Then what do you want?”
“I want him to lose everything. His territory, his money, his reputation and Giulia, and their children.”
Tony paused for a few seconds before saying, “If you could come back and rebuild the Salerno
family, I’m sure it would be easy enough. After all, taking down Vitale will be a long-term battley
and the members who’ve stood by you need an organization.”
I closed my eyes and made my final decision.
“A fake death. I’ll be waiting for you on Long Island in a week.”
Tony realized I was coming back and immediately agreed, delighted.
After hanging up, I sat in the dark, clutching my phone, for a long time.
We’ve been planning this carefully for a long time.
On the seventh day, the opportunity came.
Luca and Giulia went to the Four Seasons Hotel in Manhattan.
That afternoon, I came out of the servants’ quarters and changed into a clean set of clothes.
The housekeeper looked at me and paused for a moment: “Donna? Are you going out?”
“Just a walk on the beach.”
He hesitated for a moment, then turned to the bodyguard behind him and said, “Stay with Donna.
Make sure nothing happens to her.”
Two bodyguards followed behind.
I didn’t say anything; I didn’t reject, and I didn’t resist.
I calmly walked out of the main house and followed the path leading to the bay, taking one step at a
time.
Until I reached the edge of the cliff.
Below is the Atlantic Ocean.
The dark sea water crashes against the rocks, sending up white spray. The cliff is about fifty foot
above sea level.
“Donna, please step back-it’s too dangerous here…”
I leaped forward, and the bodyguard’s words turned into the sound of the wind whistling past my
ears.
The sky and the sea are reversed before my eyes.
Then came the icy seawater, like countless knives piercing my body all at once.
I sank into the darkness.
I heard the bodyguard shouting from above.
“Donna jumped into the sea! Quick, call Don!”
Their voices grew fainter and fainter, becoming increasingly indistinct.
The icy seawater poured into my ears and nose. I struggled to the surface, then swam in the direction Tony and I had agreed upon.
Goodbye, Luca and Giulia.
I promise, I’ll send you straight to hell next time I stand in front of you.
