I Traveled into the Future and Became the Alpha’s Luna Chapter 05

I Traveled into the Future and Became the Alpha’s Luna Chapter 05

The pack healer had come for a visit a week ago.

The last couple days.

Caleb and I hadn’t brought it up.

He came home early every day to eat with me.

And walked with me around the estate.

And slept in the same room because I insisted.

But he always faced away from me.

The whole thing with me and Julian was like a

thorn stuck in both our hearts.

We couldn’t talk about it, and we couldn’t swallow

  1. it.

I tried a million times to say something, but

nothing came out.

I’d just stare out the window til the night faded

and the sun came up.

I fell apart.

Margaret worried about my health. Every night

she’d heat up a glass of milk for me.

She felt so bad. Luna, if you’ve really changed

your mind, just talk to the Alpha. You can get past

this. Don’t destroy yourself like this.”

After more than twenty years, Margaret was more family than staff.

To cheer me up, she took me up to the mountains.

to clear my head.

The road was winding, and wolves were running

and playing everywhere.

The sound of them howling made my heart race.

I didn’t want to shift with Caleb’s kid inside me. I

just walked slow.

Margaret helped me along. Looking at the

scenery here might help you feel better.”

You’ve always been too sensitive, keeping

everything inside. That’s not good for you.”

She kept chattering softly.

I halflistened.

Until.

A wolf ran up in front of me.

Watch out!”

Margaret jumped in front of me to protect me.

I stumbled back, caught my balance, and the wolf

shifted back into a man.

Cocky grin.

Honey?”

It was Julian again.

My face fell. I turned to go the other way.

But I’d been feeling like crap lately.

I tripped on a rock.

Careful!”

Margaret yelled, and someone caught me.

I pushed him off as soon as I was steady.

I came up here to clear my head.”

If I’d known you’d be here, I wouldn’t have come.”

He kept his hands out for a second.

Then dropped them and laughed, all casual. Got

it, honey. You dumped me.”

Feeling down?”

Want me to show you around?”

No.”

I turned and left.

Margaret caught up fast.

Luna, she glanced back at Julian, her voice low.

You’re really done with him this time?”

When I nodded.

She smiled, relieved. Good.”

The wind blew the guy’s hair around.

He just stood there staring down the mountain.

No one knew what he was thinking.

Caleb came home late tonight.

He looked exhausted.

I tried to take his coat, but I missed.

Caleb tossed it on the couch and loosened his tie.

I’m tired. Let me rest a minute.”

I know.”

I made your favorite, come try-”

Caleb suddenly snapped. I said I’m tired. Can I just have five minutes of quiet?”

He grabbed his water glass and threw it on the

floor.

Shards flew up and cut my leg.

It stung.

Caleb’s anger faded. He looked sorry. Sorry.”

Margaret ran in with the first aid kit.

Caleb reached for it, but Margaretwho was always so gentlepulled back. She was scared of Caleb, but she still said, her voice shaking, Alpha, I know it’s not my place, but my heart breaks for Luna. You two decided to make this work, so you

can’t hold onto grudges.”

She’s been a mess lately. She watches you all day, walking on eggshells. She almost fell on the

mountain today, and if it weren’t for-”

Margaret!”

I cut her off. Give me the kit. Go.”

Margaret knew she’d said too much. She sighed,

handed me the kit, and left.

Caleb didn’t say anything. He knelt down to put

medicine on my leg.

Don’t bother”

I tried to pull away, but he held my ankle.

You’re bleeding.”

He knelt in front of me, dabbing gently.

I lost my temper.”

Sorry.”

I looked down at him. Something on your mind?”

Caleb paused.

No.”

Liar.”

I looked at him thoughtfully. CEOs are this

complicated?”

Caleb, when I read stories, I hate the guys who

can’t just say what they mean.”

If you’ve got the wrong idea about something, or

you’re thinking something, just tell me. Even if you can’t get past my past and you wanna break the

contract,I paused, swallowing my feelings, just

say so.”

I don’t wanna break the contract.”

Caleb argued.

I came clean.

Margaret took me up the mountain today to clear

my head. We ran into Julian.”

I ignored him.”

But when I tripped, he caught me. That’s it.”

I tried to feel him out. Did your driver tell you

something?”

He shook his head, then nodded.

Someone sent me an email.”

A twosecond clip.”

On the mountain. He’s got his arm around you.”

I was stunned for a second.

So you lost it earlier because of that?”

A twosecond clip with no context.

Maybe sensing my mood.

Caleb looked up at me, his voice totally calm now.

He said, Elena, you can’t expect someone who’s

been bitten by snakes a million times to not be

afraid of a rope that looks like one.”

But.”

I was wrong. I should’ve talked to you first.”

The man bit his lip, his eyes downcast, like a proud

little wolf admitting he messed up.

I’d always known Caleb was complicated.

We’d even broken up over it once.

Five years ago, that night at his old apartment,

was actually our first night back together.

I sat down next to Caleb.

I looped my arm through his.

I promised you I’d cut things off with Julian for

good.”

If I change my mind, I’ll tell you.”

So if I don’t say it myself, will you try to trust me?

Please?”

I leaned in to kiss him.

But right before our lips touched.

My eyes caught my slightly round belly.

My heart sank.

And suddenly, I was drowning in shame.

I couldn’t even kiss him.

Because I felt too dirty, too unworthy.

I froze for two seconds.

Then I pecked him on the cheek.

The room was dark.

I twisted my hands in my clothes, my heart full of guilt and pain.

I didn’t notice Caleb’s eyes go dark.
