I Traveled into the Future and Became the Alpha’s Luna Chapter 04
I was so shocked I could barely speak.Â
Caleb wouldn’t even look at me.Â
He grabbed his blankets and got up, ready to go.Â
sleep somewhere else.Â
“Caleb!”Â
I gritted my teeth. “I gotta tell you something.”Â
“You might think it’s crazy…”Â
“I’m from five years ago. Last night I was with yourÂ
in your old apartment. You were a total bastardÂ
that night… seven times.”Â
“That’s not the point, though. I woke up, andÂ
suddenly it was five years later.”Â
I licked my lips and, under Caleb’s gaze that madeÂ
me feel like he thought I was an idiot, I nervouslyÂ
finished.Â
“The one who cheated… that was future me.”Â
“I’m the one who likes you.”Â
Dead silence.Â
Caleb stayed quiet until the silence couldn’t holdÂ
his anger anymore.Â
“Elena.”Â
“Yeah,” I said quickly. “I’m listening.”Â
He smiled. “So, the one who cheated was future you, not present–day you who just slept with me in my old apartment?”Â
I nodded like crazy. “Yeah!”Â
So he believed me.Â
But then Caleb suddenly laughed.Â
It was a mean, sarcastic laugh.Â
“You think I’m stupid?”Â
Caleb peeled my fingers off his sleeve and leftÂ
with his blankets. “Get some sleep.”Â
He closed the door softly.Â
But it still felt like a slap.Â
I sat on the edge of the bed, feeling miserable. IÂ
thought about it, and yeah.Â
Put myself in his shoes.Â
If Caleb had cheated on me a bunch of times, thenÂ
come to me and said it was future him whoÂ
cheated, and that he was from the past andÂ
wanted to make things work-Â
I’d slap him twice.Â
You think I’m a damn dog you can jerk around?Â
I barely slept.Â
The next day.Â
I went downstairs with massive dark circles. CalebÂ
had already left for the pack.Â
Margaret coaxed me into eating some breakfast.Â
I thought it over and decided to go see the packÂ
healer.Â
I needed to get some herbs and get rid of this kid.Â
From what Margaret said, Caleb and I hadn’t sleptÂ
together in almost a year.Â
So there was no way this kid was Caleb’s.Â
I didn’t know why future me would do somethingÂ
like this.Â
But this kid couldn’t stay.Â
I left.Â
But as soon as I turned the corner.Â
A gray wolf blocked my way.Â
He shifted back into a young man.Â
Work pants, black t–shirt.Â
At first glance, he looked like Caleb used to.Â
But when he face about, I saw a completelyÂ
unfamiliar face.Â
Good–looking, cocky, full of swagger.Â
He said my name:Â
“Elena.”Â
“Who are you?”Â
The guy put his hand on his chest, looking allÂ
dramatic. “You forgot me already, honey?”Â
He pinched my cheek.Â
“Sorry I haven’t seen you in a couple days?”Â
“Been busy expanding territory. Don’t be mad. I’llÂ
make it up to you today.”Â
He raised an eyebrow, all cocky and reckless.Â
I had a pretty good idea who he was.Â
“Julian Cross?”Â
“See? You haven’t totally forgotten me.”Â
I frowned. I decided to lay it all out. “Since we ranÂ
into each other, let’s get one thing straight.”Â
He grinned like he was waiting to hear it.Â
“Whatever we had before, it ends today.”Â
“I’m the Alpha’s luna. I’m not leaving him.”Â
“You’re young. You don’t need to waste your time.Â
with an Alpha’s mate. We’re done, got it?”Â
The guy didn’t say anything.Â
He just smoked for a minute, then turned his headÂ
and blew the smoke away.Â
He let out a quiet laugh.Â
“You get tired of me and toss me aside.”Â
“Treating me like a dog, honey?”Â
I was about to answer.Â
I looked up.Â
And past Julian, I saw Caleb in the distance.Â
I couldn’t read his expression.Â
I could only see the shopping bag in his hand.Â
It was from my favorite bakery.Â
Out of nowhere.Â
My heart hurt.Â
“Caleb!”Â
I ran over to him, bumping Julian’s arm on the way.Â
He grunted.Â
“Damn, honey. That’s cold.”Â
But I didn’t have time for him.Â
When I got closer, I saw Caleb’s eyes. Empty,Â
disappointed, and underneath it all, a little hurt.Â
He just looked at me in silence.Â
Like.Â
This wasn’t the first time something like this hadÂ
happened.Â
“Here.”Â
He held out the bag.Â
His voice was low.Â
“The cake you used to love. Five–years–ago you.”Â
He looked at me quietly, like he was testingÂ
something. “You still love it, right? Present–dayÂ
you?”Â
My heart ached, slow and dull.Â
So. He did believe me about the “time travel” thing.Â
While I was spacing out, Caleb just stood there with his arm out, getting stiff.Â
Until.Â
He gave up and slowly pulled his hand back.Â
I grabbed the bag.Â
“I do love it.”Â
To prove it, I pulled out the cake and took a bite.Â
It was sweet and creamy.Â
I smiled, but I kinda wanted to cry. “It’s reallyÂ
good.”Â
Caleb smiled too.Â
He said.Â
“Elena, I thought about it all night.”Â
“You said you’re from five years ago.”Â
“I can believe you.”Â
Not I believe you.Â
I can believe you.Â
Even if the reason was stupid and crazy.Â
He still.Â
Could believe me.Â
Margaret saw us walk in together and lookedÂ
surprised.Â
Then she smiled. “Luna, what do you two want forÂ
lunch? I’ll go get it ready.”Â
Her eyes kept bouncing between me and Caleb.Â
She was happy for us, too.Â
“Don’t bother.”Â
Caleb’s voice was calm. “We’re eating out.”Â
When Caleb sat on the couch, I had the nerve toÂ
squeeze in next to him.Â
“Caleb.”Â
“Yeah?”Â
“Back there-”Â
I tried to explain. “I was gonna go see the packÂ
healer, and Julian cut me off.”Â
“I told him straight.”Â
“Whatever we had before, it’s done.”Â
I glanced at his face and mumbled, “Besides, he’sÂ
not really my type anyway.”Â
Caleb’s brow furrowed a little.Â
My heart jumped.Â
I was afraid he didn’t believe me, but then heÂ
asked.Â
“Going to see the pack healer?”Â
“Something wrong?”Â
I bit my lip, not wanting to talk about the kid.Â
“To get rid of it.”Â
No matter why future me had changed.Â
Cheating and getting knocked up by some otherÂ
guy.Â
For any Alpha, that’s the ultimate humiliation.Â
Caleb didn’t say anything.Â
After a long time.Â
He relaxed. “Make another appointment. I’ll goÂ
with you.”Â
“Okay.”
