I Traveled into the Future and Became the Alpha’s Luna Chapter 03

I Traveled into the Future and Became the Alpha’s Luna Chapter 03

I sat at the table, holding my face in my hands, feeling sorry for myself.

Five years of memories gone.

Might as well have died for five years.

And now I had to clean up future me’s mess and win my husband back.

This Alpha Caleb was moody as hell too. Flipped faster than a switch.

I sighed.

Margaret asked hesitantly, “Luna, tonight… are you gonna ask the Alpha to break the contract again?”

I froze.

“You thought I wanted to talk about breaking the contract?”

“Isn’t… isn’t that what you meant?”

Margaret mumbled, confused. “This past year, you’ve been dead set on ending it. Every time you see him, you’re either trying to make him sign the papers or telling him to let you go.”

I thought about how awful Caleb’s face looked.

So.

The reason he’d flipped out and said he was busy was because he was afraid I’d bring up breaking the contract again?

What an idiot.

Caleb worked in the study ’til late.

I was just about to fall asleep when I heard footsteps outside.

Through the dark night.

They stopped at the door.

I was wide awake now.

I grabbed my pillow and got out of bed.

I opened the door.

And met Caleb’s fragile, shocked gaze.

He froze, then slowly put away the unlit cigarette he’d been holding.

“Caleb.”

I said his name softly.

His face was complicated. He pressed his hand to his forehead. “I’m tired.”

He paused. “We’ll talk tomorrow.”

Then he tried to leave again.

I gritted my teeth, grabbed my pillow, and followed him, looping my arm through his.

Caleb froze.

I looked up at him. “I don’t wanna sleep alone. I’m scared.”

He looked away.

He shut me down again.

“I worked late. I’m exhausted.”

“I won’t move around,” I promised sincerely. “I’ll just sleep next to you, I won’t do anything.”

“I won’t bother you.”

Caleb didn’t say anything.

But I saw his throat bob.

“Fine.”

I grabbed my pillow and practically skipped into his room.

Man, this room was depressing.

He was some kinda big-shot now, but there was nothing in here except a bed and a dresser.

Oh, and an old photo of me on the nightstand.

I tried to get a better look, but Caleb was faster. He shoved it under his pillow.

“Keep that on the nightstand to remind me of all the crap you’ve pulled.”

Liar. Keep lying to yourself.

Caleb lay down with his back to me, ignoring me.

I hesitated.

Then I wrapped my arms around his waist and pressed up against him.

But the next second, he pushed me off.

Caleb turned around, his face lit by the moon, looking absolutely wrecked.

“Elena.”

“You gonna get me all worked up and then stuff some other omega in my bed again?”

He closed his eyes, trying to keep it together.

“You’ve tried everything, just so you can leave me and go be with him?”

I was completely floored.

My chest ached. I suddenly felt so bad for Caleb.

What the hell did I do to him these last five years?

I didn’t know how to explain. I just took his hand carefully. “Caleb, will you just trust me? I don’t wanna leave you.”

“We’ve got your pup right here. From now on, the three of us are gonna be a family, okay?”

But that just seemed to hit Caleb where it hurt.

He pushed me away, shaking.

His eyes were so full of grief I thought they might overflow.

“Elena, you really gonna humiliate me with this pup?”

Humiliate?

I remembered Margaret hesitating. A bad feeling crept over me.

Holy shit.

This kid wasn’t his either, was it?
