I Traveled into the Future and Became the Alpha’s Luna Chapter 02

I Traveled into the Future and Became the Alpha’s Luna Chapter 02

In the kitchen, I asked a few casual questions about the last five years.

Five years ago.

I’d married Caleb against my family’s wishes.

After the wedding, Caleb went back to fighting for territory to give me a better life.

My dad talked shit about the poor stray wolf, but when Caleb decided to claim his own land, he’d helped out behind the scenes.

And Caleb delivered.

In five years, he went from a lone stray to the Alpha of a whole new pack, and I became his one and only mate.

Margaret said.

Caleb’s pack and status now totally dwarfed my dad’s.

“It’s just that…”

Margaret helped me put the chicken soup on and hesitated. “Luna, have you and that Julian guy called it off yet?”

“Julian?”

I poked at the food in the pan, distracted. “Who?”

Margaret looked just as confused. “Your… boyfriend.”

I almost choked on my own spit.

We stared at each other.

“I cheated?”

Margaret nodded, looking pained.

“Some stray wolf. You kept saying you wanted to break the contract, you wanted to—”

She stopped mid-sentence as footsteps sounded outside.

Margaret shut up immediately.

I turned around and saw Caleb, five years later.

Dress pants hugging his long legs, shirt sleeves buttoned at the second button, mature and rugged.

He was thinner.

His features sharper.

Even though I knew this guy was my contract mate.

I still blushed at how hot he was.

“You’re… back.”

“Mm.”

So cold.

But I guess I couldn’t blame him. I’d cheated on him with some beta.

Taking a deep breath, I plastered on a smile and tried to clean up future me’s mess.

“Tired? Go wait outside, dinner’ll be ready soon.”

Caleb’s eyes swept over my slightly bump and the loosely tied apron.

His voice was dry.

“Not hungry.”

Then he turned on the kitchen fan.

And started to leave.

“Caleb!”

I ran up to him with my spatula, trying to butter him up. “Dinner’s almost ready, all your favorites.”

“Just try some, okay?”

“Not hungry.”

Caleb walked out.

Margaret asked carefully, “Luna, should we… keep cooking?”

I sighed. “Yeah.”

When the food was done, Caleb—who’d said he wasn’t hungry—was sitting at the table anyway.

I figured I had a chance, so I put a clam in his bowl.

“Luna.”

Margaret whispered, “Alphas are allergic to clams.”

Shit.

I quickly took it back.

I swapped it for a piece of roast beef.

But Caleb wouldn’t pick up his chopsticks. He leaned back in his chair and just looked at me.

“Spill it.”

“What’d you put in the food this time?”

I stared at him. “I didn’t—”

Caleb’s sarcastic voice cut me off. “You’ve cooked twice this year. Once you put silver powder in the food, once you put evening primrose pollen.”

“All because I wouldn’t agree to break the contract.”

“Elena, what’d you use this time?”

I stared at him in shock.

I had no words to defend myself.

“I really didn’t put anything in it.”

To prove it, I frantically shoved a piece of meat in my mouth.

“It’s not poisoned—”

“Ugh—”

Caleb’s face darkened, and he actually stuck his fingers in my mouth.

“Fine, I’ll eat it,” he snapped.

“Even if it’s poisoned, I’ll take it. You don’t have to go this far.”

I pushed him away and swallowed the meat.

“It’s not poisoned, it’s just… kinda gross.”

It tasted like straight-up meat grease.

Caleb stared at me for a long time.

Then sat back down.

I wasn’t sure, but I thought I saw him smile a little.

Caleb finally picked up his chopsticks.

I watched his face nervously.

Yep. The second the food hit his mouth, even Caleb, with his perfect poker face, couldn’t help but frown.

But he’d grown up with nothing.

So even though it was terrible, he ate almost all of it.

Seeing he was in a good mood, I pressed my advantage. “Caleb, I wanna talk to you tonight.”

Caleb’s hand froze.

“I’m busy.”

His face went cold again.

He slammed his chopsticks down. “I’ve got a pack meeting tonight. We’ll talk later.”
