I Refuse this Late Chapter 10

I Refuse this Late Chapter 10

How dare he?! Why did he get to have everything?!

Nonetheless, I was jerked to my senses when I felt the sudden burn on my cheek.

That was when I found myself staring at Stella, staring at me in disgust, as I was still holding Uriah by the collar and keeping him pinned against the wall.

His face now swollen and his hair disheveled, and suddenly I thought he looked crazier than I did.

As Stella withdrew her hand, she snapped, “Are you done?! Just look at you-how are you a member of the Sullivan family?! You look just like some nutjob!”

“It’s alright, Stella.” Uriah tried to smile, only to wince in pain. “It’s only natural that he resents me…”

Stella bellowed at me right then, “Let go of Uriah now!”

I didn’t, as I was still dumbstruck, so she impatiently strode up, ready to pull me away.

Expecting another panic attack, I instead felt a familiar warmth on my arm.

I turned and saw that it was Jolene, pursing her lips with a pained look in her eyes.

She gently pulled my hands off Uriah and straightened my hair, assuring me. “It’s alright now. I’m here, don’t worry.”

My tears gushed right then, and I wrapped my arms firmly around her.

“Who is she?!” Stella demanded right then, her eyes flashing coldly. “Don’t you have any respect for me?!”

Jolene stood on her toes right then, looking over my shoulder and patting my back as she glared at Stella in turn. ” Ms. Lewis, I presume? If I recall, John already annulled his engagement with you. And who I am is none of your business.”

“Watch your manners! Who do you think you are?!” Stella retorted right then.

Jolene simply ignored her, however, as she noticed that I had calmed down and took my hand, leading me into the

apartment.

“Stop!” Stella hollered. “You’re coming home with me, John!”

Jolene stopped, and looked at me, her gaze a question.

I tugged on her coat, shaking my head and saying softly, “Let’s go home.”

She nodded and didn’t hesitate to shut Stella outside the door, leaving her fuming with rage.

Jolen quickly poured me a glass of warm water and gave me the pills for my stomach ache.

After I took them and calmed down enough, she smiled wryly, clearly blaming herself. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have left.”

“It’s not your fault,” I said, squeezing her palm as if to draw on her strength. “Let’s leave this place, okay?”

Jolene studied my face in turn, as if to find any sign that I was joking.

But there wasn’t, and she turned serious as she asked, “Are you serious? You won’t be a Sullivan anymore.”

I nodded solemnly. “I love you, Jolene. And I want to marry you.’

She blushed, “I love you too. I’ll hand in my resignation right now. Just wait for me.”

She made me watch as she slid her key into her pocket and said, “See? I have the key. So don’t open the door for anyone. Once I return, we’re packing up, got it?”

“Got it,” I couldn’t help chuckling.

After she left, the house felt exceedingly spacious.

I fell asleep on the couch, worn out as beating up Uriah had taken a toll on me.

That was, until I jerked awake by a ruckus outside the door.

People were talking, and then I heard someone working on the lock.

Thinking it was Jolene, I rubbed my eyes as I reached for the door. “Welcome home-”

I paused as the door swung open-it was Stella.

She gestured for the locksmith to leave, before turning to me. “Your mom’s worried-”

“Get out!”

My body moved even before my mind reacted, as I launched a saucer at her.

She avoided it, her eyes pained somehow as she approached.

My heart pounded, and my nausea was coming back.

I tried to run, but she caught on and caught me.

And the instant she touched me, I passed out.

When I woke up again, I found myself lying in a hospital bed, and blinked.

But it wasn’t a dream.
