I Refuse this Late Chapter 09
Even as Jolene took a moment to diss me in glee, she also quickly put on her coat to get something from the pharmacy downstairs.
Soon after she left, the doorbell started to ring urgently.
Thinking that it was Jolene leaving her phone behind-as she usually did, I chuckled as I opened the door, “You really should just keep your phone in your pocket all the time…”
That was when I paused, as I found myself staring at Uriah instead of Jolene.
He was immediately sizing me up, and even though I saw the bakery paper bag he was carrying, I sensed that his intentions were hostile.
Frowning, I demanded, “Why do you know I was here?”
He smirked at me. “Are you dumb? This was a Lewis Corp project. Hell, it’s Stella who told me you’re staying here.

I clenched so hard on the doorknob that my knuckles turned pale.
It just had to be Stella again!
Now that I was staying away from her, she wanted to hound me?! Was that payback for hovering around her for years?!
I tried to close the door, but he stopped it with his foot.
I couldn’t even make it budge, even as he wagged the paper bag while looking at me gleefully. “Well, aren’t you welcoming. Don’t you see this? It’s your favorite bread.”
“There must be a mistake. I’ve never liked bread,” I growled through my teeth.
“No way!” He gasped in exaggerated surprise, before leaning to whisper into my ear, “Weren’t you begging for moldy bread just recently?”
My eyes widened, my teeth chattering as my nightmares were invoked. “You knew?”
Uriah grinned as he could clearly see the trauma flashing in my eyes, and continued to taunt me with such eloquence that it would put the devil to shame.
“Oh, I know. You were barking like a dog while staying on all fours just so that they would give you moldy bread.
“I also know that they shoved your head down the toilet just for funsies!”
And as he spoke, those dark memories haunted me again.
Pain, despair-being denied the most basic of dignity.
Even as my whole body shuddered, Uriah waved his phone at me and laughed. “In fact, I don’t just know–I have videos!”
“It was you!” I bellowed as I looked up with bloodshot eyes.”
He simply smiled and nodded, “Yes, it was me.”
“You knew that Grandpa was dying too, didn’t you?”
Uriah finally paused for a moment, but was soon laughing again, “Oh, you really can’t get over that fossil, can you?! It’s exactly because I knew that, I manufactured the events leading to our parents taking away your debit card!
“When you called Stella, I already told her beforehand that whatever you said is going to be a lie!”
I shook with rage, and landed a slap across his face before I knew it.
“He’s your grandfather! H-How could you-“I tried to curse him, but I couldn’t even manage a full sentence because I was hesitating.
Because he was Grandpa’s real grandson.
Even though I sent him stumbling, he simply shrugged and continued, “I am the heir of the Sullivans and groomed to be such! While you are just a bumpkin from the boonies, and you think you can take everything from me?!”
“And that fossil-you think he gets to be my grandfather?! Me, Uriah Sullivan?! Only losers like you would give a shit!”
At that very moment, the last trace of rationality in my mind snapped.
The first punch landed on his face came with my full strength, and I didn’t stop because I wanted Uriah dead.
I couldn’t see or hear anything right then, aside from that mouth of his that wouldn’t rest even as he breathed the most vile words in the world.
