I Drank Silverwolf’s Bane for His Sake, but He Thought It Was an Act Chapter 05

A high, piercing ringing tore through Ethan’s skull.

He clutched his chest and opened his mouth, but no sound came out.

Panic swallowed him whole.

And the moment he understood that I was dead, the agony of the severed mate bond crashed into

his mind.

“Impossible!”

When the first wave of pain ebbed, Ethan shoved Noah aside and staggered toward the exit.

As he passed Sophia, she grabbed at his sleeve.

“Ethan, don’t panic – maybe it’s a mistake…”

“Get away from me!”

Ethan flung her off. Sophia lost her balance in her heels and went down hard.

He didn’t even look at her.

He bolted out of the venue like a madman.

His steps came too fast, almost stumbling.

At the hospital entrance he was moving too quickly and tripped on the steps. His knee struck the

concrete with a dull thud.

He didn’t seem to feel it.

He scrambled up and kept running inside.

The door to the morgue opened, and cold air rolled out.

“Where is Olivia?” Ethan’s voice came out hoarse.

The medic stepped back and pointed toward one of the drawers along the wall.

“There.”

Ethan stood before the drawer, his hand on the handle.

For a long time, he didn’t move.

Noah ran in from outside.

Ethan turned to him.

“Noah. Are you sure the person in there is Olivia?”

Noah lowered his head, unable to meet his eyes.

Ethan drew a deep breath and yanked the drawer open.

A white sheet covered the body.

The shape beneath was sickeningly thin.

He reached out and slowly drew the sheet back.

The sheet pulled away — my face bruised and contorted — and strength seemed to drain from him.

He collapsed onto the floor.

He stared at my face, and a broken howl tore out of him.

“Olivia… you crazy woman.’

He reached out to touch my face. The instant his fingertips met my cold skin, he jerked back as if

burned.

“How could you…”

Then he turned and roared down the corridor.

“Doctor! Save her! Why are you just standing there? Save her!”

The doctor on duty sighed and shook his head.

“Mr. Walker, there’s no antidote for wolfsbane. Given the dose she ingested, she’s been dead for

\ hours now.”

Ethan lunged forward and grabbed the doctor by the collar.

“She isn’t dead. She’s just mad at me. She must have taken something to fake it.”

“Olivia, get up. I won’t argue with you anymore. I’ll pull Sophia from that role. Okay?”

His shouts were answered only by the low hum of the morgue’s AC.

I stood beside him and watched him fall apart.

Ethan. It’s too late.
