I Drank Silverwolf’s Bane for His Sake, but He Thought It Was an Act Chapter 06

The morgue was bitterly cold.

Ethan stared at my face, his eyes red and frantic, as if he were trying to convince himself it wasn’t

“No… Doctor, you must have it wrong.

He shot to his feet and grabbed the coroner’s arm.

“Olivia was always afraid of pain. She’d flinch at an injection. Wolfsbane burns the body from the inside out – how could she have drunk that? Someone else did this!”

The coroner shook him off, his voice cold.

“Mr. Walker, we verified the victim’s fingerprints. And take a look at her hand.”

He lifted the bottom of the sheet and drew out my right hand.

Ethan’s gaze fell on it.

It barely looked like a human hand anymore.

All ten fingernails had been cracked and curled back. Dark blood, flesh, and gray cement dust were packed beneath them, layer upon layer.

The flesh of my fingertips had been ground down to the white edge of bone.

“Once wolfsbane is ingested, the lungs undergo irreversible fibrosis. The victim suffocates

slowly.”

“She suffered prolonged agony before death – she clawed at the concrete as she struggled. That’s

where the cement came from.”

Ethan stared at my broken nails.

His lips trembled. His teeth chattered.

I floated above him and watched, cold.

Yes. It had hurt.

Five minutes after I swallowed it, my throat felt like it had been scalded.

I tried to vomit. I clawed at my throat. All that came up was blood and bile.

No one cared.

Ethan bent over suddenly, gripping his chest.

He retched.

The red wine and grilled meat in his stomach splattered onto the floor.

He knelt in his own vomit, both hands clutching his head.

Noah turned his face away, eyes red.

“Mr. Walker. Sign the paperwork. The hearse is waiting outside.”

Ethan jerked his head up and grabbed Noah’s tie, dragging him close.

“Sign what? Who gave anyone permission to take her? She isn’t dead. She’s just mad at me.”

He threw himself beside the gurney and cupped my cold face in both hands.

“Olivia, stop this. Come home with me.”

“You always wanted me to watch a movie with you, didn’t you? Tomorrow, I’ll rent out the whole

theater. We’ll go.”

“Get up. Say something.”

He shook my shoulders hard.

My body didn’t respond.

Ethan froze.

He understood.

I was truly dead.
