I Drank Silverwolf’s Bane for His Sake, but He Thought It Was an Act Chapter 04
The air in the conference room was crushing.
“You dared bring me this garbage proposal? Redo it!”
Ethan slammed the folder into the marketing director’s face.
No one made a sound.
He yanked at his tie, breathing hard.
Something was wrong.
Olivia had never gone two weeks without coming home.
In the past, no matter how badly they’d fought, she’d stay at a friend’s place two nights at most. One message from him and she’d scurry home to cook for him.
What was different this time?
Two weeks. Not a call. Not a single message.
Even their mate bond had gone unstable. Sometimes the connection cut out entirely.
Ethan drew a sharp breath and rang his special assistant, Noah.
“Find Olivia. Find out where she is. Turn the city upside down if you have to. Then bring her back to me.”
Noah wiped sweat from his forehead and ran out.
At eight that night, Sophia’s new drama premiere was held at Starlight Club.
Ethan sat at the head table with a glass of champagne. Sophia stood beside him, working the room.
“Mr. Walker, your Luna isn’t here tonight?” A reporter who couldn’t read the room thrust a recorder toward him.
Sophia’s face stiffened.
Ethan didn’t even glance up.
“She’s not feeling well. She’s resting at home.”
“But there are rumors that you’ve separated…”
“Anyone spreading rumors can expect to hear from my lawyers.” Ethan flicked the reporter a cold look.
The room went silent.
I floated up by the chandelier and watched him pretend everything was fine.
Ethan, how pathetic.
You still think I’m alive somewhere, sulking.
Halfway through the party, the doors crashed open.
The bang startled everyone.
Noah practically fell through the entrance, his face twisted with terror, white as a sheet.
Security tried to stop him, but he barreled through the crowd and collapsed at Ethan’s table.
“Alpha! Something — something terrible happened!” Noah’s voice cracked.
Ethan frowned and set his glass down, his face hardening.
“What’s gotten into you? What is it?”
“Mr. Walker — the Pack Council’s enforcement team — they called Pack headquarters!” Noah knelt on the floor, shaking.
Ethan gave a cold laugh.
“What game is Olivia playing now? Did she go to the authorities and accuse me of holding her captive?”
He stood abruptly and knocked his chair to the floor.
“Tell her if she’s done throwing her tantrum, she can crawl back.”
“If she doesn’t come home now, she’s never coming home.”
Noah shook his head in despair. With trembling hands, he pulled a sealed evidence bag from his briefcase and held it up.
Inside was a plastic bottle, the label printed plainly:
Wolfsbane.
The bottle was empty.
Beside it lay an ID tag stained dark with blood.
“Alpha… Luna… Luna died two weeks ago.”
