His Stallion Was Hers, But the Plains Had Other Choices Chapter 09
“Chloe’s family is shameless.”
“If I didn’t agree, they said they’d sue me.”
So that’s why the cops left without doing anything. They settled privately.
Dylan looked at me expectantly, like he wanted me to hate them with him.
I just said, “Oh.”
“Chloe’s always wanted you. She finally got her wish. Tell her congrats for me.”
Dylan stared at me blankly.
I raised an eyebrow. “Don’t tell me you never had feelings for her.”
“Dylan, I’ve seen you when you liked me. And I’ve seen the way you look at her. It’s not innocent.”
“Congrats. Your saddle really does belong only to her now.”
“If she can still climb up there, I mean.”
I pictured it for a second and laughed behind my hand.
Then Chloe wheeled around the corner and saw us.
Green-eyed and furious. “Oh, nice. I go to the bathroom for one minute, and you two are already all over each other.”
“Rushing to get married, trying on wedding dresses, and still flirting with your ex. Tessa, have you no shame?”
Dylan’s face went dark. He snapped at her. “What the hell are you talking about? We just ran into each other.”
“What, I’m supposed to cut off all human contact just because I’m married to you? Should I quit my job too?”
“Only someone with a dirty mind would see something dirty.”
I froze. Dylan had said that to me once.
When he first introduced Chloe, I noticed they were a little too close.
i asked him, gently, to keep some distance.
He looked at me like I was wrong. “We grew up together. So yeah, we’re close.”
“But relax. She’ll never mean more than you do.”
Later, after more fights over Chloe, he got careless with his words.
Told me I had a dirty mind.
Dylan never changed.
It’s just that now, the person who’ll fight with him, clash with him, get driven crazy by him…
It won’t be me anymore.
Suddenly, I really wanted to see Caleb.
I grabbed my skirt and ran to the door-ran right into him.
He caught me gently. “Slow down. What if you fall?”
“I just wanted to see what you were doing. Who you were on the phone with.”
He laughed low and touched my hair. “Your mom. She said come home for dinner after we finish here.”
I frowned a little. “Ask them to switch us to a different fitting room.”
“Dylan and Chloe are in there. It’s too crowded.”
