His Stallion Was Hers, But the Plains Had Other Choices Chapter 08

His Stallion Was Hers, But the Plains Had Other Choices Chapter 08

I was afraid Chloe would frame me. So I went on the offensive first.

Turns out, I was right.

Chloe was absolutely planning to pin it on me.

Dylan stared at me in disbelief. “You didn’t feed Storm for three days?”

I stayed calm. “Not my horse. Not my job.”

I shook Caleb’s hand. “Let’s go home. I’m tired.”

Dylan tried to follow, but the older cop stopped him.

“Mr. Miller, you’re the prime suspect right now. You’re not going anywhere.”

In the car, I looked back one more time.

Chloe’s parents were screaming at Dylan.

After news spread about my wedding to Caleb, rumors started floating around.

“Dylan Miller is cursed. Everyone close to him gets hurt.”

“Tessa almost died when she was with him.”

“Now Chloe’s with him and she’s a cripple in a wheelchair.”

I walked by with Caleb on my arm, ears wide open.

He sighed and pulled me from his left side to his right. “Another step closer and you’d be right in

the middle of the gossip pit. You want to pull up a chair and listen in?”

I tried to wipe the grin off my face. “Nope. We’re trying on wedding dresses today.”

At the bridal shop, I came out in the first dress.

The waiting area was empty.

I checked my phone. Caleb had texted a few minutes ago, [Gotta take a call. Wait for me, okay?]

Footsteps came closer. I stood up, excited.

“Do you like it? It took forever to get into.”

“It’s beautiful.”

I looked up.

It was Dylan.

My smile dropped. “I wasn’t asking you.”

Pain crossed his face. “Tessa. You’re really being this cold?”

“Eight years. I don’t believe you can just throw that away.”

I smoothed the skirt of the dress, expression flat.

“Every year, you told Storm to throw me off. When I was lying in the hospital, did you ever once ask if I was in pain?”

“Every morning I got up before dawn to cut grass for that horse. Did you ever ask how many cuts I had on my hands?”

“You went with Chloe to meet her favorite celebrity and left me waiting at the hospital, scared out of my mind. You couldn’t even text me to go home.”

“You said your saddle belonged to Chloe. You never once thought about me–your actual girlfriend. The one you said you were going to marry.”

“And now you want to play the feelings card? Seriously?”

With every word, Dylan’s face got paler.

He stammered for a while, then finally said, “You heard everything that morning.”

I didn’t confirm. But I didn’t deny it either.

“I was just scared Chloe would get jealous and mad! I had to say that!”

“You should understand. You know how crazy she gets when she’s upset.”

I paused. Then laughed. “Oh, I understand. I saw it that day.”

“Anyway, I heard you’re marrying Chloe. Congrats. Hope you two are miserable together.”

Dylan’s face went red with rage. Veins popped on his forehead. His fingers clenched white.

“They forced me into it!”
