Something felt off, but he didn’t think too hard about it. He chalked it up to a glitch in the hospital’s system.
He believed that once he divorced Keira, he could simply remarry me.
When he got home, Keira was in the kitchen making soup, wearing one of the dresses I wore all the time.
Every move she made was a careful imitation of me.
Adrian went still for a moment, then an inexplicable anger rose in him.
He strode into the kitchen and grabbed Keira’s wrist. “Why are you still here? I told you we’re getting divorced. And who said you could wear Vivian’s clothes? Take it off. Now.”
Keira smiled and tried to wrap her arms around him. “Look, I can learn to cook for you just like Vívian did. I’m even prettier than her, and younger. Stop thinking about her. Let’s just live together, okay?”
Adrian looked at the woman in front of him, who seemed a little unhinged, and began to regret indulging her birthday wish.
He pulled out the divorce papers and set them in front of her. “Sign. Now.”
Keira spun around and knocked over the pot of steaming soup. It spilled down her legs, leaving a large patch of skin angry red.
But she didn’t even flinch. She kept screaming. “No! I won’t do it! You promised you’d marry me! I finally became your wife, and now you just want to throw me away?”
“Get this through your head. The woman I love is Vivian. The only wife I’ll ever have is Vivian.” Adrian watched her unravel without a word.
“If you don’t sign these papers, you can forget about Vivian’s research paper and your precious advisory position.”
Keira’s lips trembled. With clenched teeth, she forced a nod. “Fine. I’ll sign.”
The second Keira’s pen lifted from the page, Adrian snatched the papers and headed straight for the hospital without a moment’s delay.
