He Married His Childhood Sweetheart for a Day, Then Lost Me Forever Chapter 04

The words had barely left my mouth when Keira, who was cutting cake nearby, burst out I forced my heavy eyelids open. My lips trembled as I used the last of my strength to say, “Save me… save our baby…”
But the last words were swallowed by a sudden crack of thunder. He didn’t hear them.
“Vivian, I’m sorry.” He pried my fingers away, one by one. “Today is Keira’s birthday. I promised to spend it married to her. I checked, and you just have a few scrapes. I’ll call an ambulance for you.”
He set me down on the curb.
“Just hang in there. I’ll come check on you soon.”
The car window rolled shut without mercy. He hit the gas and sped away.
The pain was so intense I could barely breathe. My vision started to blur, and as I watched his silhouette fade into the rain, I shed my very last tear.
In the final second before I lost consciousness, I heard an urgent shout from my colleague, Dr. Nathan Hayes.
“Vivian! Are you okay? Hold on. I’m taking you to the hospital right now.”
I couldn’t remember anything after that.
All I remembered was hearing a nurse’s anxious voice through the fog.
“Where is the patient’s family? She’s hemorrhaging badly, and her condition is critical. She needs a blood transfusion now.”
“Her insurance isn’t going through. Get emergency authorization while we prep the OR.”
“She’s pregnant, but we probably can’t save the baby. Prioritize the mother.”
The operating room lights flared on. I lay on the table like meat on a butcher’s block, helpless as cold instruments probed inside me.
I didn’t even have the strength to speak. Only the tears trickling from the corners of my eyes proved I was still alive.
I felt a searing pain, not just in my body, but in my heart.
The moment the baby was taken from my body, something inside me died with it.
Every last trace of devotion I had once felt for Adrian died too.
When I woke again, I felt like an empty shell.
Nathan was at my bedside. When he saw my eyes open, the tension left his face.
“Thank God. Vivian, you’re finally awake.”
I stared blankly at the ceiling. My lips barely moved as I said, “I want to see my baby.”
Nathan flinched and forced himself to tell me the truth. “The hospital has already disposed of the remains. The fetus hadn’t developed yet. It was only tissue and blood.”
I closed my eyes in agony.
This time, no tears came. I had none left.
“Nathan, your sister is a journalist, isn’t she?”
Nathan nodded. “She is. What are you thinking?”
I clenched my jaw. “I’m going to make Adrian pay.”
My phone screen lit up. The clock read 12:01 a.m.
Keira’s birthday was over.
Adrian had sent a text.
“Her wish has been granted. Tomorrow morning at nine, let’s go get remarried.”
