He Married His Childhood Sweetheart for a Day, Then Lost Me Forever Chapter 06
words had barely left my mouth when Keira, who was cutting cake nearby, burst out He rushed to the front desk the moment he walked through the doors.
“Where is Vivian Clarke? Where is she?”
The receptionist checked the records. “I’m sorry, sir. We don’t have anyone by that name.”
Adrian couldn’t believe it. “That’s impossible. I called the ambulance myself. She was brought here. How can
there be no record of her?”
Just then, two young nurses walked out of a patient room.
They were gossiping back and forth.
“The patient in bed three insisted on being discharged today. Not even the medical director could talk her out of it.
“Poor woman. She lost her baby before it was even born. No one could take a blow like that.”
“And her husband, can you believe him? His wife was hurt that badly and he didn’t even come to see her.”
Adrian frowned as he overheard them.
He felt a flicker of contempt for the husband they were talking about.
What kind of man does that? A man like that doesn’t deserve a wife.
If that were my wife, I would never let her go through something like that.
The two nurses passed behind him, still chatting.
“I heard she’s close to the medical director. He even took her out of the patient directory and locked down her chart.”
“They served together as military medics. She was ahead of him in training.”
“Oh, I just remembered. That woman’s name was Vivian Clarke.”
The name hit Adrian like a bomb going off inside his skull. The blood in his veins seemed to freeze.
He grabbed both nurses from behind, his grip so strong it startled them.
“The woman you were just talking about. Say her name again!”
The nurse was trembling with fear. “It… it was Vivian Clarke…”,
“When she was brought in, she was hemorrhaging. The baby couldn’t be saved. She almost didn’t make it either.”
There was only one military medic named Vivian Clarke in the entire city.
It had to be his wife.
He staggered back two steps and nearly collapsed.
His lips were shaking. “No. It can’t be. Not her. It can’t be her.”
He immediately made calls to have the hospital investigated. They eventually found my file in the archive room.
The words “hemorrhagic miscarriage” stabbed at his eyes like needles.
held the file, his whole body trembling.
So when I told him I was pregnant, it hadn’t been a joke. It hadn’t been jealousy or spite.
I had really been pregnant.
And because of that ridiculous birthday wish, he had killed his own child.
As if his soul had been ripped out of him, he crumpled to the floor in the hospital corridor and slapped himself across the face as hard as he could.
“I’m a monster!”
At the same time, the press conference for my research paper officially began.
The paper could be an enormous help in tackling hard-to-treat diseases.
The moment it was unveiled, it drew attention from the entire medical community.
Keira, listed as the author, stood on stage in an elegant custom gown.
Reporters aimed their cameras at her from every angle.
With one relationship having just ended in failure, Keira was determined to score a win in her career.
But she knew nothing about medicine. She couldn’t even understand the technical terms in the paper.
When reporters and medical professionals asked her questions, all she could do was fumble through vague non-
answers.
These reporters weren’t fools. They immediately saw that something was off.
That was when a reporter named Grace Hayes stood up.
“You claim to be the author of this paper, yet you can’t answer a single question about how the research was conducted. I have reason to believe this work was stolen.”
