He Made My Parents Wait, So I Stopped Waiting Chapter 05

I cut her off.

“Mrs. Wentworth, Sebastian and I have broken up.”

“If something happened, call Violet. Don’t call me.”

“After all, you’ve never approved of my family anyway, have you?”

On the other end, her sharp, furious voice burst through.

“Winifred Carter, what do you mean by that?”

“Do you know how much my son gave up for you?”

“He almost cut ties with his family to insist on marrying you. Now something happened to him, and this is

your attitude?”

I stayed silent and thought back to when Sebastian and I first got together.

Back then, I thought his family was simply comfortable.

I didn’t know he was a second-generation heir.

In the third month of our relationship, his mother came to find me.

She didn’t do the cliché thing from novels and throw a check at me.

She simply sat there and looked me over from head to toe.

Then she picked up her coffee, took one graceful sip, and said, “Miss Carter, I heard you’re from some small

town in the South.”

“I wonder if you’ve ever heard the phrase people marry within their own world.”

“I admit, you’re pretty. No wonder Sebastian would reject the arrangements we made for him.”

“But marriage takes more than a pretty face. After all, a vase is the most useless thing in any room.”

At that time, my feelings for Sebastian weren’t that deep.

Naturally, I couldn’t tolerate such humiliation.

Right in front of his mother, I sent Sebastian a breakup text.

Before leaving, I looked at her and said calmly, “Mrs. Wentworth, I got into Harvard’s top computer science program through my own ability.”

“I don’t think that’s something a useless vase could do.”

Back then, I had truly planned to break up with Sebastian.

But that afternoon, he had a massive fight with his family.

Then he stood beneath my dorm all night in the rain.

He said nothing.

He just followed me silently like an abandoned puppy, watching me.

The day before my period, he had my roommate bring me painkillers and a heating pad.

When school events ended late and the sky was too dark, he would quietly walk behind me and escort me all the way back.

Once, when an out-of-control delivery truck charged toward me, he ran over without hesitation and pushed

me away.

He was the one who ended up in the ICU.

His face had been bruised and swollen.

I sat beside his hospital bed and cried, begging him to be okay.

The first thing Sebastian did after he opened his eyes was struggle to lift his hand and wipe my tears.

The second thing he did was apologize in a broken voice.

“Winnie… I’m sorry…”

“I let you… suffer…”

“Can you… give me… one more chance?”

I cried and held his hand.

I said yes.

Sebastian used that one life-saving moment to make me give him my whole heart.

So later, when his parents looked down on me and deliberately embarrassed me, I tolerated it again and again because I didn’t want to make things hard for him.

When he forgot our anniversary and took Violet to a mountaintop to watch a meteor shower, I got upset, but he coaxed me, and I let it go.

After that, on a rainy day, his umbrella leaned toward Violet.

On my birthday, he stood me up because of Violet.

Whenever I argued, he took Violet’s side again and again.

At first, when I got upset, Sebastian would still coax me and explain.

But later, whenever I got angry because of Violet, he would look at me like I was being unreasonable.

Then he would say irritably, “I was willing to risk my life to save you. Isn’t that enough?”

“Why can’t you trust me a little more?”

“Winifred, when will you learn to be generous? When will you stop being so petty?”

That time, Sebastian left after throwing those words at me and slamming the door.

I sat on the couch and cried until my eyes were swollen.

Then I began to reflect.

Was I really too sensitive?

Was I really too narrow-minded?

Half an hour later, I saw Violet’s Instagram story.

It was a close-up photo of her and Sebastian at the airport, their hands clasped together, cheeks nearly

touching.

The caption read, [My favorite sponsor picked a fight with his girlfriend on purpose so he could take me to

see the northern lights. Be honest, don’t we look more like a couple?]
