He Made My Parents Wait, So I Stopped Waiting Chapter 04
When Sebastian saw me, he stood up.
After a moment of silence, he said, “Violet’s parents are staying with us for a while.”
“Your parents are leaving soon anyway, so I had someone clear their things out early.”
The corner of my mouth lifted in a cold smile.
“Sebastian, I never realized what a perfect son-in-law you could be.”
Then I ignored the three guarded stares from the living room and went into the bedroom alone.
Sebastian followed me inside.
Like usual, he tried to coax me.
“Winnie, don’t be mad. I already booked your parents a five-star hotel. I’ll drive their luggage over later.”
“Violet’s family are guests. We can’t be rude.”
I said nothing and kept packing.
Sebastian came closer and helped me fold clothes.
“Winnie, I feel like you’ve been so distant from me lately.”
“Violet has already secured her graduate program now. If you really mind, I’ll reduce contact with her from
now on. Okay?”
Like he was presenting treasure, he took a necklace from the drawer.
“Look. I bought the necklace that’s been sitting in your cart forever. Consider it my apology.”
“Also, I already finalized the venue for our engagement party these past few days. The guest list is done too.”
“Tomorrow, all you need to do is show up looking beautiful.”
I froze.
Then I turned and asked him, “You finalized it? When? Why didn’t you discuss it with me?”
His tone was careless.
“I saw how busy you were, and I figured girls probably like the same things, so I asked Violet for reference.”
I slowly repeated his last words.
“You asked Violet for reference?”
“So the venue visits, the style, the favors, the guest invitations, all of that was done by you two?”
“Sebastian, don’t you think that’s hilarious?”
Displeasure flashed across his face out of habit, but he forced it down.
“Winnie, I don’t want to argue about this anymore. I promise you, you’re the one I love. That will never change.
Is that enough?”
He picked up the necklace, smiling, and reached out to put it on me.
“Winnie, let’s stop this fight, okay?”
“I can’t sleep without holding you at night. Even if you’re punishing me, I’ve been punished enough.”
I stepped back and avoided him.
The smile on Sebastian’s face faded.
I looked at him for a few seconds before speaking.
“Remember to send me the engagement venue address.”
The moment the words landed, Sebastian smiled with effortless confidence again.
“Winnie, I knew you still wanted to marry me. No matter how angry you get, you can’t bear to leave me.”
Then his gaze swept over my suitcase, and his mood clearly improved.
“Good. Now I can relax. You don’t have to keep playing hard to get.”
“How many times have you packed a suitcase? Have you ever actually left?”
“Besides, your hometown is almost seven hundred miles away. Even if you’re mad, you can’t exactly run back
to your parents.”
I walked past Sebastian and pulled my suitcase toward the door.
He leaned against the doorframe, not panicked at all.
He watched me with a smile.
“After you’re done throwing your fit tonight, remember to be on time for the engagement party tomorrow.”
I smiled and looked back at him.
“Don’t worry. I’ll definitely give you a big surprise.”
The next day, I helped my parents carry their bags onto the Amtrak train.
As the boarding alarm beeped and the doors prepared to close, my phone started vibrating wildly.
The third call ended automatically.
When the fourth call came in, I finally answered at my own pace.
On the other end was Mrs. Wentworth.
Her voice was panicked and helpless, thick with tears.
“Winifred, where are you? Sebastian… Sebastian is in trouble. You need to come here right now…”
