Carrying His First Love’s Child Chapter 06
The night of the party, Josiah had someone send over an evening gown.Â
I unfolded it and gave Josiah a dry smile. “This really looks like something Winona would wear.”Â
Josiah seemed to realize it too, but quickly replied in a cold tone, “Why are you bringing her up?”Â
I didn’t say anything else. I just went ahead and chose a different gown.Â
Before we left for the party, I sent the incriminating photos and the video I’d taken straight to Winona’s husband, Jackson Webb, along with the exact location details.Â
After hitting send, I posted something on my Instagram feed, knowing full well Winona would seeÂ
- it.Â
She was going to cling to Josiah like her life depended on it.Â
Sure enough, the moment Josiah and I arrived at the party, I spotted Winona standing not far away.Â
The instant she saw us walking in together, her expression crumbled, and she turned to flee.Â
She was already pregnant. And Josiah’s whole world revolved around her.Â
But even so, right in front of me, he couldn’t bring himself to chase after her.Â
Watching him squirm, clearly torn, I couldn’t help. but feel quietly amused.Â
He tried to mingle, but it was obvious that he couldn‘ t sit still. Eventually, he leaned toward me and muttered, “I have to take this call.”Â
I squeezed his hand, about to say something, then I noticed Casper standing not far off.Â
He was staring directly at our clasped hands, his gaze sharp and full of fire, as if he wanted to tear the moment apart.Â
My heart skipped a beat.Â
Casper strode over, first locking eyes with me, then turning his attention to Josiah.Â
Josiah immediately tightened his grip on my hand. and frowned.Â
The tension between them was so thick it was practically humming.Â
Casper smirked and said, “Why so tense, Josiah? I just thought your date looked amazing tonight and wanted to say hello.”Â
Josiah pulled me closer, his tone icy. “Stay away from her.”Â
Right then, a piercing scream rang out from across the hall.Â
It was unmistakably Winona. She looked like someone had just shoved her.Â
Watching Josiah barely able to hold himself together, I knew it was time to set the stage.Â
“I need to freshen up,” I said casually.Â
Josiah visibly relaxed. “I’ll wait here for you.”Â
I made my way toward the restroom but stayed close enough to keep an eye on him.Â
The moment I walked away, Josiah cracked. He rushed straight toward Winona.Â
Of course, I followed.Â
I hadn’t taken more than a couple of steps beforeÂ
Casper grabbed my wrist so hard that it hurt.Â
I turned to look at him, startled. He let go right away, his lashes lowered to hide whatever was in hisÂ
eyes.Â
“I just couldn’t take seeing you two like that,” he said, his voice unsteady. “I couldn’t stop myself.”Â
I gave his hand a gentle squeeze and motioned for him to come with me.Â
When we got there, we saw Josiah pulling Winona into a quiet corner.Â
He was still talking in that sharp, clipped tone, but there was urgency underneath it. “I already told you, didn’t I? There’s nothing going on between me and her.”Â
Tears streamed down Winona’s face. She sobbed, “I can’t stand seeing you with her, Josiah. If you really like her, then we’re done.”Â
That hit him like a switch had flipped. JosiahÂ
grabbed her and crushed his lips against hers in a wild, desperate kiss.Â
And that was the moment a man suddenly stormed out from beside me and kicked the door wide open.Â
He yanked Winona by the hair and slammed her head into the wall.Â
“You cheating whore! How dare you betray me?” he roared.Â
It was Jackson, Winona’s husband.Â
Winona screamed, the sound splitting the air as her head hit the wall with a sickening thud.Â
Everyone nearby turned at the noise.Â
Josiah froze, totally caught off guard. His firstÂ
instinct was to protect Winona–he moved to shieldÂ
her. And that was when his eyes met mine.Â
I stared at the two of them in disbelief, tears welling up in my eyes. “You two…”Â
Without another word, I turned and ran.Â
Josiah hesitated for just a second. Then, he didn’t go to Winona. He ran after me.Â
“Josiah!” Winona’s voice rang out, trembling with panic.Â
But before Josiah could get far, Jackson swung a fist and punched him.Â
The two immediately got into a fierce brawl.Â
I stepped out of the room, and Casper followed close behind. He looked at me with a complicated expression. “Was this your plan? he asked.Â
“It was,” I admitted.Â
I looked him in the eye. “Am I a terrible person?”Â
Casper was much taller than me. He pressed his lips into a thin line, his lashes low, eyes unreadable.” I just never thought you’d go this far… You used to love him so much.”Â
I stepped forward and wrapped my arms around him. “I’m sorry.”Â
Casper whispered back, “Even if you hadn’t done it, I never would’ve let him get away with it.”Â
After that night, Josiah and Jackson became locked in a brutal feud.Â
Jackson dragged Winona away.Â
I heard he kicked her so hard, she lost the baby.Â
With the deal he’d worked so hard to secure falling through, and still nursing injuries, Josiah scrambled to call in every favor he had.Â
In his desperation, Josiah turned to me again.Â
But as he arrived, he saw Casper walking out of myÂ
bedroom.Â
Josiah looked utterly stunned.Â
Everyone in our social circle knew how devoted IÂ
used to be to him.Â
And Josiah and Casper were sworn enemies.
