You Called Me Vulgar While I Was Vomiting Your Child Chapter 05

Afterward, I booked a flight to Banff National Park to watch the northern lights.

It was a dream I had held since I was twenty.

In seven years, Julian and I had planned three trips.

The first time, Vivian injured herself skiing, and he rushed off through the night to care for her.

The second time, Vivian’s project won a major corporate award, and he canceled our tickets to join her overseas.

The third time, right before we left, Vivian went through a bad breakup and drank herself into a stupor. He stayed by her side all night.

Every single time, Julian promised to make it up to me later.

I waited seven years for a “later” that never came.

When I reached the airport, I still had an hour before boarding.

As I finished checking my bags, I spotted Julian and Vivian.

Vivian wore a white winter jacket while Julian leaned down to adjust her scarf.

She held up two boarding passes with a bright smile.

“We promised back in college we’d see the lights together. I can’t believe it took this long.”

Julian ruffled her hair.

“No more broken promises.”

My phone chimed at that exact moment.

A text from Julian:

[Work emergency. I’ll be out of town for a few days.]

[Think things over at home. We’ll talk when I get back.]

I glanced at him through the crowd and smiled bitterly.

The airport announcement called for passengers to board.

I put my phone away and dragged my suitcase toward my gate.

From today on, they could chase their lights.

I was going to live a life without them.

As I neared the security gate, a sharp voice called out from behind.

“Claire!”

I paused and looked back.

Julian had pushed through the crowd, walking straight toward me.

His gaze dropped to my suitcase, and his expression darkened instantly.

“You actually followed me to the airport?”

I didn’t answer.

He seemed to take this as proof of my deceit, his lips curling in mockery.

“You claimed you miscarried and hemorrhaged last night, yet here you are dragging luggage to catch my flight.”

“Claire, isn’t this performance a bit much?”

I stared at him in silence.

He was completely blind to my pale skin and the sheer effort it took just to stand upright.

All he saw was me standing in the way of his trip with Vivian.

Vivian walked over with her bags as well.

“Claire, did you find out about our trip to Banff and decide to tag along?”

She sighed with practiced helplessness.

“Julian is just helping me fulfill an old college promise.”

“You’re in no condition to fly long-haul. Don’t be so reckless with your health.”

Hearing this, Julian looked at me with deep disappointment.

“I lied about a business trip precisely to avoid this kind of drama.”

“I never imagined you’d fake a miscarriage just to track our itinerary all the way here.”

He reached out to grab my suitcase handle.

“Go home now. When I get back from Banff, I’ll take you to the clinic myself.”

I stepped aside.

“Don’t bother.”

Julian’s face went completely cold.

“Claire, don’t push it.”

“You fake a medical emergency, chase me to the airport, and now you’re playing the victim?”

“Do you really have nothing better to do than spy on Vivian and me?”

Every word echoed the accusations from the night before.

I used to believe that if he saw me face-to-face, he would finally realize I wasn’t lying.

Now I understood the truth.
