You Called Me Vulgar While I Was Vomiting Your Child Chapter 04

She handed her phone to me.

I stared at Julian’s contact for a long time before finally pressing call.

It rang for a dozen seconds before connecting.

Julian’s voice was even more impatient than before.

“What is it now?”

I looked at the blood bag hanging by the bed, my voice too weak to catch.

“The procedure is done.”

“I hemorrhaged, and the baby’s gone. Can you come to the hospital?”

There was a moment of silence on the line.

Then came his cold sneer.

“Claire, an hour ago you were reading your prenatal lab results.”

“Now suddenly you’re having a miscarriage and hemorrhaging?”

“Are you really making up stories like this just to drag me away from Vivian’s celebration? Have you no shame?”

I struggled to explain.

“I’m not lying!”

The nurse couldn’t take it anymore, reaching out to take the phone.

“Sir, Ms. Miller just underwent a D&C procedure following a pregnancy loss. She experienced severe hemorrhaging and needs someone here with her.”

Julian’s voice turned icy.

“I don’t know who you are.”

“This is a private matter between my wife and me. Please stop playing along with her games.”

Vivian’s voice drifted from the speaker.

“Julian, come cut the cake. Everyone’s waiting.”

Julian’s tone softened instantly.

“Be right there.”

Before hanging up, he dropped one final sentence.

“Claire, using a child to grab attention is pathetic. Using a child’s life to lie is unforgivable.”

“What has happened to you?”

The line went dead with a busy tone.

The nurse’s face was pale with anger.

“Is that the father?”

I looked at the darkening sky outside the window and slowly shook my head.

“Not anymore.”

At midnight, I was still on an IV drip.

A video call suddenly popped up from the group chat.

I thought Julian had finally remembered to check on me.

Instead, Vivian’s face filled the screen.

She was clearly drunk and had accidentally tapped the group video button.

Her phone was tossed casually on a bar cart, pointing straight at the sofa nearby.

Vivian looked up at Julian and suddenly laughed.

“Julian, I regret it.”

“I’ve been to so many places over the years.”

“Mountains, deserts, Patagonia. I thought this was the life I wanted.”

“But seeing what you bought for the baby today, I suddenly want a home too.”

“I’m tired of drifting alone.”

Julian looked at her, a look of pain crossing his face that I had never seen before.

After a long silence, he asked in a hoarse voice.

“Why say this now?”

Vivian’s eyes grew red.

“What if I hadn’t left after college graduation?”

“If I had told you then that I wanted to stay, would you have married me?”

Julian didn’t answer right away.

But his silence gave me the answer.

Vivian asked again.

“Would you?”

“Yes.”

A single word shattered seven years of our relationship.

I gasped for air, suffocating under the weight of it.

The nurse came over to change my IV and accidentally knocked my phone off the tray.

The video call cut off instantly.

I didn’t call back.

I just lay quietly in the hospital bed, watching the blood flow slowly into my veins.

The child he hoped would grow up to be like Vivian was gone.

And I no longer needed to play the role of a pathetic housewife.

After being discharged, I returned to an empty house.

I packed my belongings into a suitcase and left the signed divorce papers on the dining table.
