Warm My Frozen Heart Chapter 07

Warm My Frozen Heart Chapter 07

Yvonne charged forward and immediately got into a fight with Jennifer.

The two women clawed at each other. Despite being much younger, Jennifer didn’t give an inch.

My head was pounding. I ran over and pulled them apart.

By the time I succeeded, both of them had bruises on their faces.

I grabbed a tissue and gently pressed it against a cut on Jennifer’s cheek. I then grabbed her wrist before she could charge forward again.

“Jennifer, if you get into another fight, I’m breaking up with you!”

She froze instantly. The hostility in her faded away. Looking both hurt and annoyed, she stared at me.

I softened my voice while ignoring the murderous glare from Yvonne.

“Be good. Go to the hospital first.”

Jennifer could hear the concern in my voice. She immediately said, “Okay.”

She then walked past Yvonne with her head held high.

Yvonne couldn’t stand it. She reached out and grabbed my arm.

There was a pleading tone in her voice. “Jason!”

I shook her hand off and said calmly, “Tomorrow at noon. Meet me at Jeep’s Deli.”

After saying that, I got into the car and drove away.

Through the rearview mirror, Yvonne’s figure looked lonely and defeated.

Jennifer snorted. “What’s with the act? Women like her are experts at playing the victim.”

She then rested her head against my shoulder and whimpered dramatically. “Honey, it hurts.”

…She had to be kidding. This was the same woman who’d fractured an orbital bone during a baseball game and never once complained.

There was no way she was actually that fragile.

“You don’t even feel sorry for me anymore.”

I sighed helplessly and ruffled her hair.

“Just be good. Stop fighting with her.”

Jennifer let out a disdainful snort.

“Who does she think she is? She’s not worth my attention.”

The mistress was acting like the lawful wife.

I couldn’t help but laugh for a while at how absurd this all was. I then accompanied her to the hospital for

treatment.

The next day, despite several desperate attempts from Jennifer to stop me, I kept my word and showed up.

That’s because I knew there was no avoiding this encounter in person.

For some reason, Yvonne hadn’t treated a single one of her injuries.

The bruises and cuts looked alarming.

People passing by kept glancing at her.

The woman who normally cared so much about appearances didn’t seem to care.

I frowned but said nothing.

Yvonne’s eyes welled up with a little tears. Clenching her jaw, she stared at me.

“Don’t you have anything to explain?”

My hand paused midway through lifting my coffee mug. I shrugged.

“No.”

Bang!

Her palm slammed onto the table.

She pointed at me furiously. “You cheated on me! Jason, is this how someone is supposed to act after cheating on their partner?”

‘Yeah. Is this how someone is supposed to act after cheating on their partner?’

For years, that was the question I’d wanted to ask her.

How could she be so shamelessly self-righteous? How could she blame everything on the innocent spouse she’d betrayed?

But now I understood. It was because Yvonne was a selfish wretch.

There was no other reason for it.

I chuckled and looked at her face.

“So?”

Yvonne trembled with rage.

She stared at me in disbelief. She couldn’t believe I was behaving so nonchalantly.

“Do you think you’re right? Fine. I cheated too, but that doesn’t give you the right to cheat!

“And besides, I said I was trying to change! You’re the one who refuses to let it go and won’t give me a chance to make things right.”

She continued criticizing me and blaming me for everything that happened.

This was exactly what I’d expected. Every conversation with her ended this way.

Finally, Yvonne fell silent. She stared at me.

“You really don’t have anything to say?”

Prior to this, she had imagined my reaction countless times.

She’d expected panic and remorse, but never indifference.

“The only thing I want is a divorce.”

“I won’t agree to it!” Yvonne shouted.

But the moment the words came out, she slumped back into her chair.

Pressing a hand over her bloodshot eyes, she spoke through a trembling voice.

“I regret it every day. I regret being such a terrible person.

“I used your kindness against you. I finally understand how you felt and how much you were hurting.

“But I hate you too. I hate how heartless you’ve become!”

I listened quietly. I didn’t feel anything at all.

When she finally stopped talking, I stood up.

“Are you done? I’m leaving. Think carefully about the divorce. If this turns ugly, it won’t benefit either of us.”

I’d said everything I needed to say. When I turned around to leave, Yvonne suddenly grabbed my hand.
