Wait—Did I Steal Your Best Buddy While You Were ‘Missing’? HELL YES!! Chapter 08
The video was clear.
Jasper was drunk, leaning on Sloane as she half-carried him.
He laughed. “You’re really letting me stay at your place? Aren’t you scared?”
Sloane rolled her eyes. “We’ve known each other forever. What’s there to be scared of?”
“Damn, you’ve got guts.”
“We’ll see who taps out first later.”
They kept bickering as they went inside.
The person filming didn’t leave.
Not until sounds started coming from inside-moaning, bed creaking.
Someone off-camera laughed.
“Yo, they’re really going at it.”
Besides those two, everyone else’s voices got changed in the video.
So you couldn’t tell who filmed it.
But I knew.
Had to be someone from their group.
Jasper only hung with them-only they could’ve gotten that close.
That night was Sloane’s birthday. Callan had something come up and didn’t make it.
Rule him out, that leaves the other two guys.
Turns out their “tight” friend group? Everyone secretly hated each other.
After the cheating proof dropped, the cheater and homewrecker got destroyed online.
Jasper’s family ran a mid-tier clothing brand-think Zara level.
Customers flooded their stores demanding refunds.
The company lost a ton of money.
That’s when Jasper did something really low.
He threw Sloane completely under the bus.
According to Jasper’s version? The fake disappearance was Sloane’s idea.
The cheating? She seduced him.
He even posted screenshots as “proof.”
Sloane had sent him lingerie photos late at night asking if he liked them.
People went crazy.
Sloane got torn apart online.
Even her family’s restaurants got harassed.
Sloane panicked: “We’ve known each other since we were kids. To him I’m basically one of the guys. There was no seduction.”
That defense just made people angrier.
[Gross. When you two were hooking up, you didn’t seem to think of yourself as ‘a guy.’]
[I hate these boundary-less opposite-sex friendships.]
Sloane lost her job. Had nowhere to turn.
So she came to Callan.
I was there the day she showed up.
Through the video doorbell, I could see her looking completely wrecked.
Callan didn’t open right away.
He asked me: “Should I let her in?”
“Yeah, let’s see what she wants.”
I went into the bedroom, but the walls were thin-I heard everything.
Sloane’s voice cracked: “Callan, you’re the only one who can help me now.”
Callan sounded bored: “How?”
“I know you’re with Lexie now.”
“Yeah.”
“You’re just messing around with her, right? Your family’s loaded. There’s no way you’d actually be into some ordinary gif like her.”
“What do you mean ‘ordinary’?”
Callan’s voice went ice cold:
“We’re all ordinary people, Sloane. After everything that’s happened, what are you still so proud of?”
Sloane choked on her words.
“Just come forward and say this was Lexie’s plan-that she set it up to cheat on Jasper with you. After that I’ll hook you up with way hotter girls.”
Callan laughed, but it wasn’t nice.
“You. Are. Insane.”
Sloane’s voice rose: “Aren’t we supposed to be friends?!”
“Without Lexie, who’d want to be your friend?”
“What… what are you talking about?”
“I only joined you guys because of Lexie.”
That shocked both of us.
Callan kept going: “I saw Lexie freshman year. Couldn’t get her out of my head. But I didn’t get her number in time. Next time I saw her, she was already with Jasper.”
I could hear Sloane’s sharp breath. “You joined us just to…?”
“Yeah. To wait for my shot.”
“You’re insane! They’d been together two years!”
“And I waited two years.”
Callan’s voice held this edge of pride. “Patience pays off.”
“So when you agreed to help Jasper, that was also…?”
“On the surface, returning a favor. Really? My own plan from day one.”
Turned out everyone had their own agenda.
Only Callan stayed hidden till the end.
Sloane’s voice shook: “Callan, you’re sneaky as hell!”
“Yeah? You’re one to talk.”
