No one objected.
The internet loved it. Memorial livestreams aren’t common.
So viewers kept flooding in.
Most didn’t know Jasper, but dropped messages anyway-RIP, prayers, candles.
Of course, it sparked debate.
[How does someone go missing and the parents refuse to file a report?]
[Right? Shouldn’t they have called the cops immediately?]
[I looked up the Brennans-they’re loaded. Maybe they hired their own search team?]
[He went missing near Ridge Mountain? That doesn’t add up. I live near there and haven’t seen any search teams.]
I ignored the comments.
Not yet. The other star was about to enter.
Sure enough, thirty minutes later, Sloane kicked my door open.
“Lexie, what the hell are you doing?!”
She stormed in and started ripping down the flowers and photos.
“Jasper’s not dead! What is fucking wrong with you?!”
I still had a tear on my face. Looked shocked.
“What… what are you talking about?”
“Jasper’s NOT DEAD, you stupid idiot!”
She had no clue everything was being livestreamed. Every word recorded.
She got here so fast because Callan tipped her off-like I asked.
“Sloane, I know you two are close, but you don’t need to comfort me like this. It’s been over a month. I’ve accepted it.”

I forced a weak smile. “Sloane, that’s not funny…”

Callan was holding a McDonald’s bag.
Sloane was in her pajamas.
Clearly he’d just gone to get her breakfast.
The two of them squeezed into frame, practically pressed up against each other.
“Lexie, I’ll be real with you. He faked this whole thing because of YOU.”
Sloane crossed her arms, looking down at me.
“You were suffocating him. He couldn’t shake you, so this was his only option.”
My face went white. I swayed-a friend had to steady me.
“You’re saying… he refused to break up with me… so instead he chose this cruel lie?!”
“Damn right. But don’t blame him, blame yourself.”
“Your parents are what, middle-class workers?”
“What made you think you could keep a guy like Jasper?”

I steadied myself. “Sloane… what exactly is your relationship with him?”
“Childhood friends.”
I looked uncertain:
“Really? Because as his girlfriend, I knew nothing.”
“But you know everything. Are you two really just friends?”
Sloane’s face twisted.
“Do you even understand what ‘childhood friends’ means?”
“He shares everything with me. I’m the closest person to him besides his parents!”
One friend couldn’t take it. “You two have zero boundaries!”
Another chimed in: “She’s basically the other woman, hiding behind ‘friendship.””
“This is disgusting, Lexie. He’s not worth it.”

Sloane’s little performance? Yeah, that’s a wrap for now.
I claimed exhaustion and everyone slowly left.
Once they were gone, I ended the livestream.
