The Wrong Baby Chapter 11
Damien visibly deflated on the spot.
He muttered that I was being unreasonable, then grabbed his jacket and stormed out.
Clips from the livestream were posted online, and soon enough, Damien was summoned by the Council for questioning.
As for me, the livestream comments gave me an idea.
I simply took strands of hair from Damien and Raven and sent them in for a paternity test. The pack healer owed me a favor.
The results were shocking.
I quietly hid the report away, planning to give their pack a big surprise.
But before I could deliver it, the Luna arrived with the whole family in tow.
The moment she came through the door, she kicked Raven behind the knee.
“Kneel down and apologize to your aunt!”
With tears in her eyes, Raven lowered herself to the floor and knocked her forehead against the ground three times.
I quickly stopped her.
I wasn’t dead yet. What was she bowing like that for?
The second Raven finished, the Luna rubbed her hands together and said, “Selene, look. Damien and Seraphine have both been taken into custody by the Council. We have to think of a way out.
“Raven doesn’t even dare go to school now. How about this? You and Damien sell the house, and we’ll move somewhere else.
“After selling the house, the money left over can be used to smooth things over.”
Marcus plopped himself down on my new couch and said, “Let me tell you something. I haven’t even settled the score with you over my son’s death yet.”
I let out a cold laugh.
This house was my premarital property.
Who were they to make decisions about it?
Still, they did remind me of someone.
“I don’t have any money,” I said. “Besides, Raven wasn’t the only one involved. What about her friend? Why don’t you sue her too?”
The Luna’s eyes lit up, as if she had suddenly thought of a brilliant solution.
But Raven started crying.
“Grandma, you can’t sue my friend. If you do, how am I supposed to survive at school? No one will play with me anymore!”
The Luna snapped at her to shut up, her expression icy.
“Cry, cry, cry. What are you crying for? If it weren’t for you, you little curse, your brother wouldn’t be dead, and we wouldn’t be in this mess.
“I’m telling you now. If your uncle and your mother don’t come back, let’s see who’s going to raise you!”
After I finally drove the whole pack out, I immediately packed my things and went back to my birth pack’s territory.
I didn’t want anything more to do with that family.
My son was sleeping peacefully in his crib, completely unaware of everything that had happened outside.
I thought of my last life.
After my son fell, he died on the spot.
I had cried until it felt as if my heart had been torn apart.
But what had Damien done?
He had only protected Seraphine’s family.
He had not even allowed me to curse them.
The Luna had said it was simply my bad luck.
Not once had she mentioned what they had done.
I had wanted Raven and her friend, Lily Vance, to pay the price.
But Lily’s parents were well-connected pack elders in our county.
They had been the ones who used money and connections to bury the whole thing.
Who would have thought that this time, the incident would become so big that even their connections could no longer save them?
