The finance director sprang up, stunned. “Ms. 

Ashford? What are you doing here? I thought you 

were still at home recovering.” 

The head of Administration hurried over as well. 

“Ms. Ashford, you’re finally back!” 

The HR manager’s eyes were red with emotion. 

“Ms. Ashford, we’ve been waiting for you for so 

long.” 

One longtime employee after another gathered 

around me, their respect obvious. 

The five women, meanwhile, each looked more 

stricken than the last. 

“What… Ms. Ashford?” 

“That’s impossible. Ryan said he owned the 

company. Then who is she?” 

I walked onto the stage and took the microphone. 

“Let me introduce myself. I’m Natalie Ashford, the controlling shareholder and board chair of this 

company.” 

“Ryan Mercer is the CEO, but he’s still just an 

employee.” 

“And after what we’ve all seen tonight, it’s clear 

he’s been carrying on affairs with employees. I 

have the authority to fire him.” 

Ryan stared at me in disbelief. “Natalie, are you really going to do this?” 

I smiled. “Why wouldn’t I?” 

“Ryan, I put you in charge of my company five 

years ago. I never imagined you’d use it to keep 

five women on the side.” 

“You brought this on yourself.” 

Kelsey refused to believe it. She grabbed Ryan by 

the sleeve. 

“Ryan, tell me this is all fake. Please.” 

“You promised me the company was yours. You 

said we were going to be together for real.” 

Ryan hurriedly clapped a hand over her mouth. “Kelsey, stop talking!” 

On his other side, Lauren was already sobbing so 

hard she could barely get the words out. 

“Ryan, what about our house? The 

3,200–square–foot one you said your mother sold 

because she didn’t like it?” 

“I don’t care about the bad energy. We can buy it 

back. We can still live there together and make 

this work, can’t we?” 

Ryan whipped toward her. “Lauren! You too-” 

Before he could finish, Chloe shook her head 

frantically and cut him off. 

“Are you all insane?” 

“I’m pregnant with Ryan’s baby! I’m the one he’s 

really with!” 

“You’re just side pieces he fooled around with. Stop clinging to him!” 

Then she reached up and touched Ryan’s face, 

looking at him with open concern. 

“Ryan, you’ve worked here for years. You’ve been the CEO for years. Even if she’s chair of the board, 

she can’t just throw you out like this!” 

“And even if she does fire you, you’ve been in this 

position long enough to have money of your own.” 

“The baby and I will stay with you while you build 

yourself back up.” 

Ryan jerked away from her without hesitation. 

“You’re the one who’s lost it!” 

“None of you touch me!” 

The five women stood frozen. 

Ryan turned back to me. 

“I have nothing to do with any of you. Stop 

claiming otherwise.” 

“All that stuff about the bonus, the house, the car, 

the stock, the baby–it’s all nonsense. You faked 

those recordings.” 

“If you keep spreading lies about me, I’ll call the 

police.” 

Chloe stared at him. 

Just yesterday at the hospital, Ryan had said he 

would save the baby. Now he was denying he had 

anything to do with her. 

She suddenly laughed, then spun around and 

pointed at me. 

“Chair of the board? Please. You’re no different 

from the rest of them. You’re just another woman 

he’s sleeping with!” 

“The second you showed up, Ryan started denying 

1. me. You’re even worse than they are!” 

“I’m telling you right now–once this baby is born, you’ll still be the other woman!” 

She pulled out her phone and started filming me. 

“If you think you can use his job to force him to choose you over me and his baby, I’ll expose you online!” 

Ryan finally snapped. 

He spun around and knocked the phone out of her 

hand. 

“Chloe! I told you to shut up! Why are you still talking?” 

Then he took a deep breath, turned to me, and dropped straight to his knees. 

“Babe, you see it now. I don’t love any of them.” 

“Please. Don’t fire me.”
