The Plain Jane Everyone Mocked Was Actually the Queen of a Fashion Empire Chapter 06

Chloe gave a scornful laugh.

“You think being with her will make you happy? Then take a look at this post and see exactly what kind of

comment you liked.”

Ethan snatched the phone from her hand and examined the screen.

He read the post and every comment beneath it, then saw that his own account had liked one of them.

Then he suddenly remembered the night he’d gotten drunk over Chloe. He’d been so wasted that he’d handed

her his phone.

He had never seen the post himself, and he would never have liked a comment like that.

He couldn’t bear to imagine what would happen if Nora saw it.

Clinging to a sliver of hope, he said, “Delete the post right now. Don’t let Nora see it. She won’t be able to

handle this.”

Chloe burst into loud, exaggerated laughter.

“Ethan, it’s hilarious hearing you say that now.”

“Of course she saw the post. She also saw the comment you liked.”

“Do I need to repeat what I wrote? I said she had no identity of her own and was nothing but a doormat!”

“As far as she knows, you liked that comment without a moment’s hesitation!”

“And what about the post itself? What do you think went through her mind when she saw it? She must’ve realized that your entire three–year relationship was nothing but a lie!”

Chloe kept talking without holding back. Watching Ethan’s expression grow colder by the second gave her a

strange sense of satisfaction.

She couldn’t accept that Ethan might have fallen in love with an ordinary woman.

Even worse, she couldn’t accept that his feelings for her had changed.

She had always believed Ethan was the kind of man she could push away as many times as she wanted and

still never lose.

She had been so confident.

Now Ethan had shattered that confidence.

Why should she make this easy for him?

Ethan’s fingers trembled slightly.

He looked down, thinking about Nora’s strange behavior over the past few days.

No wonder she had suddenly said she hated short hair.

No wonder the way she looked at him had changed.

His heart began pounding as a terrible sense of dread settled over him.

Without another moment’s hesitation, he strode toward the door.

Chloe stepped in front of him.

The forcefulness drained out of her, and her eyes filled with tears.

“Ethan, I’m not trying to pressure you. I just want you to think it over.”

“You loved me so much when we were together. And you’ve already hurt Nora beyond repair.”

“Maybe she’s already left you. Why can’t you forget about her and be with me?”

Her voice softened as she lowered her eyes.

For Ethan, she seemed willing to set aside her usual arrogance and pushiness.

But only one sentence echoed through Ethan’s mind.

“Maybe she’s already left you.”

Panic surged through him.

Chloe saw him standing there in a daze and assumed she had gotten through to him.

The next moment, Ethan shoved her aside.

His voice came out hoarse.

“She won’t leave me. She never will.”

“She’s always gone along with what I wanted. She’s made so many compromises for me. How could she ever bring herself to leave?”

Then he strode out the door.

The way he yanked open his car door gave away his fear.

He sped almost all the way home.

The moment he opened the front door, he instinctively looked toward the couch.

On countless nights, Nora had curled up there watching shows while she waited for him to come home.

Sometimes, she’d fall asleep on the couch, but the moment she saw him, her eyes would light up.

Now the couch was empty.

The entire house felt deserted.

He went from room to room, searching for Nora.

Instead, he discovered that all the photos of them together, their matching outfits, and their matching

necklaces were gone.

All the strength drained from his body, and he sank into the spot where she used to sit every day.

He pulled out his phone and called her, only to hear a cold automated message.

“The number you have dialed is no longer in service.”
