The Pet My Family Gave Me Was the Secret Behind Her Miracle Recovery Chapter 09
I stared at Serena coldly.
Mom and Dad immediately pulled her back.
Both of them watched me warily, as if they were terrified I might hurt their precious daughter.
Serena seemed to find their reaction boring.
She simply said, “Roo. Kill her.”
The kangaroo launched itself forward.
Then it threw a full–force punch.
My face went pale.
I dove to the side.
But I wasn’t fast enough.
Its fist slammed into my shoulder.
The pain was blinding.
This hit was even harder than the others.
My arm shattered.
I screamed.
The sound tore from my throat as I collapsed to the floor.
I looked up at them through tears of pain and stared at them with pure hatred.
Mom couldn’t bear to watch.
She turned her face away.
Dad gave a symbolic sigh, as if he regretted what was happening but had no choice.
Serena, meanwhile, continued watching me with the smug expression of someone enjoying her victory.
Then the kangaroo came at me again.
I didn’t even have the strength to fight back.
Gritting my teeth through the pain, I rolled away and forced myself to my feet.
Then I ran.
Behind me, Serena laughed.
The heavy thudding sound of the kangaroo hopping after me echoed through the room.
Serena giggled.
“Catch her!”
A group of bodyguards rushed toward me.
They were trying to trap me so the kangaroo could deliver the final blow.
Then, suddenly, a group of people stormed inside.
“Police! Nobody move!”
The officers saw me lying there, badly injured.
They immediately subdued the bodyguards.
Mom and Dad were restrained.
And I was finally pulled away from the people who had tried to kill me.
Dad roared, “Sloane Vane! You called the police?!”
I looked like a complete mess.
But I still laughed.
Then I raised an eyebrow at him.
Mom and Dad tried desperately to explain themselves.
But before the police entered, they had already seen everything through the open door.
The officers had witnessed exactly what had been happening inside.
One officer spoke in a stern voice.
“You are being detained on suspicion of First–Degree False Imprisonment and Attempted Murder.”
Mom’s face turned white.
“She’s my biological daughter!”
She pointed at me.
“This is just a family dispute! We were disciplining her! We were joking around!”
The officer turned toward me.
I ignored Mom’s desperate stare.
“Officer, they tried to kill me.”
I pointed toward my parents.
“They don’t even legally acknowledge that I exist.”
Mom looked horrified.
“How can you say something like that? Stop lying! Tell the police the truth! We’ll give you whatever you want!”
I laughed coldly.
My fingers brushed against the contract hidden inside my clothes.
Now that I had this, why would I ever care about their worthless promises?
Serena’s face was deathly pale.
Her eyes remained locked on me.
Dad suddenly pleaded with the police.
“This is all a misunderstanding! I have another daughter!”
He pointed toward Serena.
“She’s innocent. She has a severe heart condition. She needs full–time medical care. She can’t be left without
anyone to take care of her!”
Serena immediately began crying.
She looked pitiful as she begged the officer to let her go because of her medical condition.
The officer’s expression remained cold.
“If this is really a family dispute, then you can explain yourselves to the District Attorney and ask the victim
for forgiveness.”
Everyone looked at me.
Serena clenched her teeth.
But she quickly softened her expression.
“Sloane, everything before this was my fault.”
Her voice became gentle.
‘Please, for the sake of Mom and Dad giving birth to you, can you forgive us?”
The moment she said that, every police officer noticed something was wrong.
But no one interrupted.
I looked at them and laughed.
“A family?”
I tilted my head.
“I’m not even listed under your Family Trust.”
I looked directly at Mom and Dad.
“There’s no record of you raising me under the Social Security Administration either.”
My smile turned colder.
“So tell me, are we really family?”
I continued.
“Because according to your legal guardianship records, Serena is your only daughter.”
Their faces changed instantly.
I turned toward the police.
“Officer, I don’t know these criminals.”
I spoke clearly.
“I refuse to sign any Settlement Agreement.”
My gaze swept across all of them.
“I want to press felony charges.”
I smiled.
“I want them to pay for what they did.”
Mom screamed, “Then what about Serena?!”
The entire room fell silent.
I raised an eyebrow.
Then I laughed.
“You really do love her.”
I didn’t care about the fear, embarrassment, or worry on their faces.
I turned back to the officer.
“Officer, my arm hurts.”
I looked exhausted.
“And I’m tired.”
My voice weakened.
“Can you call EMS and have them take me to the emergency room?”
“Of course.”
Before I passed out, I pointed at the kangaroo.
“That kangaroo is mine.”
When I woke up again, a female police officer was standing beside my hospital bed.
She had come to ask me for a more detailed statement.
My right arm was heavily bandaged.
I could barely lift it.
When she was finally ready to leave, she gave me an update.
My parents had been denied bail.
The Grand Jury had formally indicted them on charges of Aggravated Domestic Assault and Attempted
Murder.
Serena had suffered a heart attack and was currently receiving treatment in a police–guarded medical unit.
But my parents had spent a fortune hiring a team of high–powered defense attorneys.
They were preparing to fight the charges, seek bail, and enter pleas of not guilty.
Which meant this wasn’t over.
There would be a long legal battle ahead.
I let out a cold laugh.
Then I asked the officer one question.
“What happened to the kangaroo?”
