The Neighbor’s Cat Destroyed His Lies Chapter 08
Julian’s parents could barely walk steadily. They helplessly supported each other as they left.
Deep disappointment welled up in their eyes once more, but their dismayed gazes instead fell upon Julian.
Though my parents also wanted me to reconcile with Julian, they were primarily concerned for my well–being and cared little about his fate.
Seeing my resolve, they gave up trying to persuade me and left.
The vast living room was left empty except for Julian, who had been abandoned by everyone.
I glared at him impatiently. “Why are you still here? Do you want to wait for the police to show up?”
Julian seemed to summon every ounce of courage before lifting his bloodshot eyes to meet mine.
He appeared calmer than before. He knelt on the floor and inched toward me on his knees. “Clara, how many people in my position have never made mistakes?
“Yes, I cheated with Ivy. But you… you were injured back then. You couldn’t accompany me on trips or participate in extreme activities. What was I supposed to do?
“You know I dread the monotony of a routine life. My soul needs the fuel of adventure and excitement to-
Before he could finish, I cut him off. “So you chose to betray me?
“Julian, if you found me boring, you could have said so. I could have let go. But betrayal? You’ll pay the price for betrayal.”
To everyone else, I was the cold–blooded, heartless one.
But no one knew how agonizing and desperate I had felt the moment I knocked on Ivy’s door. I had been haunted by suspicion when I noticed the Ragdoll cat’s unusual affection for Julian.
Though Julian covered his tracks well, he could not conceal his lingering scent in the air.
Neither could he hide the amulet tied around Ivy’s wrist.
Julian may have even forgotten that this amulet was obtained for him at the most sacred church before our wedding, where I had knelt for two days and nights, praying for him.
He had simply given it away to another woman.
The dense black dots on that initial divorce agreement had not been dirt stains. They had been my tears.
Pulling myself from the memory, I took a deep breath and shoved Julian out the door.
He reacted like a betrayed man. Breaking down, he let out a long rant.
“I truly don’t understand! I loved you so much and treated you so well. Why wouldn’t you give me a chance?
“No matter what happened between Ivy and me, she could never replace you in my heart. You’ve always been the one I love most, Clara Hill!”
I had once believed him without a doubt
At that moment, I no longer believed a single word.
Through all those tears and pleas, I was only his second priority. His real goal was to cling to his
his company.
I gave him a dismissive glance and chuckled.
“Save that nonsense to charm Ivy.
“If I were truly your greatest love, you wouldn’t have come out that night, so intent on defending her and treating me like some jealous harpy torturing a cat.
“I still remember that slap at the company. Ivy tripped on her own and shed a couple of tears. You forced me to apologize to her as if she were the victim of some great injustice.
“I may be dull, but I’m not dumb.
“I won’t believe a single word you say anymore. And don’t even think about taking a penny of mine.”
