The Mark That Wasn’t Mine Chapter 06

The Mark That Wasn’t Mine Chapter 06

He drove back to the pack house in a daze. It was

eerily quiet at the entrance. The wall where the

group photo had once hung was now nothing but

a pale, empty rectangle.

Sarah? His voice echoed in the silence. Sarah,

this isn’t funny!”

He rushed into the bedroom and yanked open the closet. Only his clothes were hanging inside; her

closet was completely empty. All the drawers

were empty, and the toiletries on the bathroom

counter had been cleared away.

Nono, Sarah, how could you do this to me!”

He staggered back into the living room, collapsed

onto the sofa, and buried his face in his hands.

Just then, he saw it.

There was a piece of paper on the coffee table.

With trembling hands, he picked it up.

Death Certificate: Eleanor Walker.

A cry burst from his throat, and tears streamed

down his cheeks.

The woman who treated him like her own

grandson is dead. It was his fault. He ruined

everything.

The electronic lock on the door beeped. Emily

walked in, looking worried.

Alex? Honey, are you okay? You look terrible. She

reached out and gently touched his arm. Don’t

worry, I’m here now. If Sarah’s gone, she’s gone.

You still have me. I’ll always be by your side-”

Get out!He jumped up from the couch and

shoved her away. Get out of my house! I never

want to see you again!”

She fell heavily to the ground.

Are you out of your mind?!she screamed,

struggling to get to her feet. You’re the one who

marked me! You’re the one who said you loved me

and needed me! And now you’re blaming me? You

hit me!”

It’s you!He strode forward and grabbed her by

the throat. You’re the one who posted those

photos! You did it on purpose! Didn’t you!”

“So what!Emily’s face twisted into a snarl. That selfrighteous bitch Saraha parasite living off her trust fund! I’m glad I took everything from her!”

Alex couldn’t believe she could say something so

cruel.

Pack your stuff and get out,” he said in a low voice. Get out right now, or I’ll make you pay back

every penny she gave you, with interest. I’ll ruin

your reputation and make sure you can never return to the pack!”

Fear flickered in her eyes. She knew he could do it.

She staggered to her feet, grabbed her purse, and

ran off.

Silence fell once more, and he slumped to the

ground.

Sarahwhere are youHe bowed his head

deeply, tears falling onto the floor. I’m sorry…

pleasecome home.”

Only the steady hum of the refrigerator answered

him.
