The Mafia Princess Is a Miracle Healer Chapter 05

The guilt drained from Carlo’s face and something harder took its place.

“Even if you’re angry, you don’t have to curse us like that…”

He stopped mid-sentence. The color left him.

Medicine teaches you to read people, and Carlo had been in my presence for less than an hour.

He’d already felt the changes in his own body. He just hadn’t let himself look at them,

Love makes people stupid.

He’d believed Caitlyn’s lies without blinking seven years ago.

He was doing it again now.

The only difference was who was paying the price.

Carlo took two steps back. The doubt had crept into his voice.

“Elena. Am I really infected?”

“I get a physical every year. That’s not possible.”

“Oh? And who handles your results?”

I knew Carlo better than he knew himself.

He’d never bothered with the logistics of his own health.

When we were together, I handled all of it.

After marrying Caitlyn, he’d handed that responsibility over to her.

For someone with her kind of mind, doctoring a lab report would’ve taken ten minutes.

Carlo’s face had gone blank.

I watched him stumble toward his car.

I turned back to my broom.

What goes around comes around.

My master had been right about that too.

Carlo had already eaten up half my shift.

I ended up clocking out at eight o’clock.

My parents’ photos stood on the living room shelf, polished clean.

I made a simple dinner, set a plate in front of them, and talked through everything that had happened.

“Mom, Dad. I haven’t been able to give you justice yet. I’m sorry.”

“But I think karma is finally catching up on its own.”

It wasn’t like I hadn’t thought about going after Carlo.

But the money between us was a wall I couldn’t scale.

Getting close to him took layers of security, layers of appointments. He never moved without people around him.

Revenge wasn’t just difficult. It was impossible.

And after my father died, my mother deteriorated.

She needed someone with her constantly.

I couldn’t risk her safety on something reckless.

Seven years slipped by like that.

Time softens things.

In the grinding repetition of daily work, I’d

gone numb.

I thought I’d just keep living that way.

Mechanical days. Mechanical life.

Then Carlo showed up.

And in the space of a single moment, seven years of memory came crashing back.

The hate had never left.

When I saw him, I’d already run through every possible move in my head.

I could play along, agree to treat Caitlyn, and poison them slowly during the sessions.

Be the good woman on the surface and destroy them quietly underneath.

But one look at Carlo told me I didn’t need to.

He was already done.

And so was Caitlyn.
