The Mafia Princess Is a Miracle Healer Chapter 04

I stared at him.

I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.

Then he set his foot on my wrist.

“Keep them or lose them.”

“Your call.”

I heard the crack before I felt it.

Then the pain spread, white and all-consuming.

My master’s words came back to me.

“Force your way into someone else’s fate, and it comes back on you.”

I had saved Carlo.

And the price was my hands.

Carlo broke them himself.

He watched me writhe and didn’t flinch.

The memory surfaced and I let out a cold laugh, looking at the man now standing in front of me. Desperate, hollow, begging.

“Carlo, you ended Caitlyn’s only shot at survival yourself.”

“That day, I begged you. I tried to explain.”

“You didn’t listen.”

“You just went ahead and broke my hands. Without a second’s hesitation.”

“The hands that pulled you back from the edge of death.”

Carlo’s expression shifted. Something unraveling behind his eyes.

“I was out of my mind that day. I wasn’t thinking clearly.”

“But I checked with doctors afterward. A minor fracture like that heals fine.”

“Treated properly, it wouldn’t have affected your life at all.”

“You’re a healer. You could’ve fixed your own injury.”

The old pain moved through my hands.

Slow and deliberate. Eating at something deep inside me.

I closed my eyes and let one tear fall.

That was what I’d told myself back then.

I made a mistake. I paid for it.

The pain in my wrists would fade. The wound in my chest would close.

If I gave it time, I could pull myself back together.

I never expected what came next.

“Carlo. Was it really just that?”

“After that, you went after my family to force my hand.”

“My father was the most respected neutral broker in New York’s underworld. He never took sides. Never held power over anyone.”

“And you drove him to his death.”

Carlo shifted uncomfortably. “What was I supposed to do? After Caitlyn lost the baby, she tried to jump off the second-floor balcony.”

“If you’d just agreed to treat her, none of that would’ve happened.”

“We did love each other once. I didn’t want it to go that far.”

A laugh escaped me. Tears followed.

Love. Sure. Real love doesn’t leave your family bankrupt and buried.

“Carlo, you’ve forgotten, haven’t you? After my family fell apart, you sent men to cut the tendons in my hands. Then they went bone by bone through every finger.”

“Ten fingers. Every nerve connected. I blacked out from the pain more than once.”

“The man you sent told me you wanted me to feel every second of it.”

“He said anyone who hurts Miss Caitlyn pays a thousand times over.”

“You destroyed me. And in doing that, you destroyed Caitlyn’s last hope too.”

Carlo shook his head, genuinely disbelieving, or at least wearing the look of it.

“That’s not possible. I never ordered that.”

“There’s been some kind of mistake.”

“I was furious, yes. But after everything we were to each other, I would never have gone that far.”

As for the truth of what happened, I’d stopped caring.

Maybe someone else had acted in his name.

My master always said Heaven watches. The wicked always answer for it.

Carlo missed what I was really telling him. That I meant him and Caitlyn both.

“Go back and tell Caitlyn my hands are gone. I can’t help her.”

“And while you’re at it, make arrangements for yourself.”

“I can’t treat anyone. But I still know how to diagnose.”

“The moment I looked at you today, I could tell.”

“You’re already past saving. You’ll go before she does.”

Carlo broke his composure completely. “That’s insane. Caitlyn has a lung condition. It’s not contagious.”

I smiled, quiet and certain.

“She has HIV.”
