The Luna’s Last Drop Chapter 03
Back in the hospital room, the healers swarmed around me at once.
Several heating lamps were turned on to full power, casting scorching warmth across the room. Nurses cut off my frozen stiff clothes, all looking pale and grave.
“Severe hypothermia, frostbite has likely set in.”
“Her blood pressure is dropping rapidly! Hurry, inject epinephrine!”
“Alpha, if we cannot stabilize her condition now, Luna may not make it through the night.”
Kieran stood by the door, crumpling my medical record sheet tightly in his grip. “Save her. She cannot leave me. She survived that rogue attack ten years ago. She’ll survive this, too.”
No one dared to speak a word.
I lay there quietly, listening to the steady beeping of the monitor. Old memories flooded my mind.
Kieran hadn’t been born an Alpha. He was once an outcast in the pack. The first time I met him, he was hiding behind the clinic entrance smoking, surrounded by piles of rejection letters.
I asked him if he truly dreamed of becoming an Alpha.
He looked up at me, exhaustion evident in his eyes, “I want it more than anything, yet no one ever believes in me.”
For the first time, I offered my own blood and life force, gifting it to him as a lucky charm before he headed off to battle.
On the night he claimed his first victory, he held me tightly in our tiny apartment. “Vee, I swear I’ll lay the whole world at your feet.”
I believed every word.
When the elders of his pack opposed our mating on the grounds that I was too weak and sickly, he stood up and argued against every single one of them.
At our bonding ceremony, he declared to everyone present, “I wouldn’t be where I’m today without Vivian.”
In that moment, I thought I had finally found my happiness.
When I was pregnant, the healer issued a stern warning, “With your blood type and your medical condition, childbirth could very well cost you your life.”
Still, I chose to keep the child.
On the day Scarlett was born, Kieran was not by my side.
Selene had gotten into a car accident. She was emotionally shattered and had been sent back to town. Kieran held my hand and promised, “I’ll be right back.”
Yet he never returned that whole night.
I suffered massive hemorrhage, and all reserved blood supplies in the pack hospital were transferred to support Selene’s surgery. Once again, I gave my own life force to keep Scarlett alive.
When I woke up, Kieran knelt by my bed, tears streaming down his face. “I’m so sorry. I should have been there with you. This will never happen again.”
But he broke his promise time and time again.
A commotion in the hallway pulled me back to reality.
The healer spoke in great anxiety, “Alpha, Luna cannot endure any more harm. One more blow like this, not even the Moon Goddess can save her.”
Kieran spoke in a firm tone, “She won’t die. Her constitution is unique, and she is stronger than anyone I know.”
“That was before she gave birth!” the healer retorted sharply, “You have drained her dry! Her wolf form has not surfaced for ages. She is fading away!”
Kieran’s phone rang. He hesitated for a moment then answered the call.
Selene’s voice sounded faint and fragile, “Kieran, I had another nightmare. The plane crash… there was blood everywhere…”
He glanced at me then walked out of the room, “I’m coming right away.”
The healer sighed and left as well.
Minutes later, Kieran came back. He placed a photo on my pillow. It was a picture of my sister Elena, standing outside our parents’ plain pack house with a gentle smile, wearing a thin coat that looked utterly out of place for the weather.
My fingers trembled slightly, “Why are you showing me this?”
He leaned down toward me, his tone much softer, “Elena wants to see you, Vee. Stop torturing yourself like this.”
“As long as you help Selene recover, I’ll bring Elena here. The two of you can be together.”
