The Last to Know Chapter 08

Chapter 8 The Wedding Gift

After that day, Fiona never came to see me again.

Even the money she sent for my medical bills was intercepted by Oliver.

Without money, I was moved from a VIP room to a regular ward. Then, from a regular ward to a shared

room.

The conditions were awful, and the only medication I received was the bare minimum. My recovery became slow and painful.

A month later, I had spent my last dollar and had no choice but to leave the hospital.

As my fingers brushed over the long, dark scar across my chest, a tidal wave of hatred nearly swallowed

me whole.

The first thing I did after being discharged was go to the police station. “I’d like to report a crime. Someone stole my mother’s body.”

The police acted quickly. In less than a day, they traced where it had gone using the hospital’s security footage.

The truth had only taken a few taps on a keyboard to uncover. Yet Fiona had believed Oliver based on nothing but his word. How pathetic.

Following the surveillance footage, the police concluded that Oliver and Sean had transported my mother’s body together.

They also pulled their purchase records. Oliver had bought a used chest freezer online.

The police believed there was a high probability that my mother’s body had been hidden inside it.

“Mr. Miller, we’ll dispatch officers immediately, arrest the suspects, and recover your mother’s remains.”

I clenched my fists so tightly that my nails dug into my palms. Prison alone was far too good for Oliver.

Looking at the photos Oliver had posted, proudly showing off the luxury hotel where his wedding would be held, I let out a cold smile.

I wanted him to sink into the dirt at the very moment he thought he had reached the top of the world.

“Officer, arresting them now could tip them off. Oliver’s wedding is in three days, and Sean will be there too. On a day that important, neither of them will run. It’ll be the perfect time to make the arrest.”

After discussing it, the officers agreed with my plan. “All right. Three days from now, we’ll move in.”

The wedding took place three days later.

Wedding Gift

Fiona had reserved the entire Altus Crest, Kingsport’s most luxurious wedding venue.

A sea of flowers spilled beneath glittering crystal chandeliers. The lavish reception cost tens of thousands per table, and Fiona had booked a hundred of them without a second thought.

Everyone said she was hopelessly devoted to her husband.

I adjusted my earpiece, reported my position to the police, and walked calmly into the ballroom.

By the time I arrived, the ceremony was already halfway through. The bride and groom were exchanging rings before their family and friends.

The moment I appeared, every face in the room tightened.

Sean gritted his teeth and spoke first. “This is a wedding for a prince and princess. What’s a dragon doing here? Gavin, leave my best friend’s wedding right now.”

Even Fiona’s younger brother, who used to treat me like family, looked at me coldly. “Gavin, have some dignity. Even if you’re here to object to the wedding, Fiona will never choose you. You and Oliver aren’t even in the same league. Anyone with half a brain knows who they’d pick.”

Our mutual friends quickly joined in. “Starting trouble here is a crime, Gavin. We were friends once. Don’t make us call the police.”

Fiona looked at me, the tips of her ears turning pink. She hesitated before speaking. “Gavin, are you really here to stop the wedding? Don’t do this.”

I ignored every one of them. I took the laptop from the event technician, plugged in my flash drive, and connected it to the system.

“Stopping the wedding would be boring. I’m not here to stop it. I’m here to give the happy couple a wedding gift.”

I clicked the mouse. The massive screen behind them flickered to life as a video began to play.
