The Floating Comments Showed Me His Real Feelings Chapter 08
The orientation ended, and my head was still spinning.
Tessa could tell I was somewhere else. She looped her arrn through mine and steered me toward the exit.
At the entrance, she stopped dead
I looked up, and there he was. Callum. Right in front of us.
He looked hurt, just barely, around the edges, and my eyes burned before I could stop them. I tried to walk
past him.
But he stepped in front of me.,
“Shouldn’t you be with your first love right now?”
“Why are you here?”
“Your girlfriend’s right over there!”
Even with all my doubts, the words came out sharp and bitter before I could stop them.
Callum caught my hand and held on tight. When he spoke, his voice cracked.
“Maren, you look exhausted. What happened to you?”
“Didn’t I tell you to take care of yourself?”
That voice, the one I’d been trying so hard to forget, almost broke me right there.
The comments came flooding back.
[Does she have a death wish?? How is she STILL going near Callum? Doesn’t she know only the endgame couple gets happy endings? An ex who won’t stay in her lane is just asking to get destroyed, especially a
disposable one like her.]
[She thinks a few nice words mean he cares?? Lol Callum and Sienna literally just had a fight. He’s only going
near her to make Sienna jealous.]
[LMAO look at her face. She actually thinks she has a shot again. An ex is an ex. She could never compare to
Sienna.]
[If Callum actually cared, he would’ve come WAY sooner. Why now? Think about it.]
[Exactly. He only came because Sienna is here. If she can’t see that, she’s not gonna survive what’s coming.]
Before, I’d let the comments push me into every decision. But now that I actually thought about it, half of what they said didn’t hold up.
Callum wasn’t shy. He’d never been the type to hide how he felt.
When we got together, he made it official in front of all our friends without hesitating.
If he really wanted Sienna, nothing would’ve kept him from being with her by now.
“Callum, is this your ex?”
A soft voice cut through my thoughts.
Sienna walked up to Callum and held out a jacket.
Callum took it without thinking.
The comments started up again.
[SO CUTE!! Callum won’t even let Sienna look bad in front of Maren?? She needs to back off!]
[This is how real couples act: so natural, like they’re already family. Callum is head over heels for Sienna!!]
My eyes locked on the jacket. I was about to say something.
But Callum got there first.
“I’ll get this back to Nolan.”
“He’s back home, but his jacket’s with you. Are you two together?”
The question hit like a slap. Both of us went silent.
Sienna’s face went a shade paler. I caught her eyes flicking toward me, rattled.
“No. We’re just friends. It’s not like that.”
Callum didn’t even blink.
“There’s nothing to misunderstand.”
“If you two are together, you’ve got my blessing.”
