The Floating Comments Showed Me His Real Feelings Chapter 03
Callum nudged me awake the next morning.
“Didn’t you say you had somewhere to be? It’s getting late.”
“I’m heading to campus anyway. Ride with me.”
He was already dressed, hair styled, jacket on, looking like he’d been up for hours.
A breakfast burrito sat on the kitchen island, still steaming. He must’ve gone down to the corner café for it.
And just like that, all the heaviness from last night loosened a little.
Our clothes were still tangled together in the dryer. The fridge was stocked with all my favorite drinks, his craft beer and cold brew squeezed in alongside them…
Callum had been good to me. Really good.
He did the cleaning, the laundry, the cooking—barely ever letting me lift a finger.
If…
[Callum is TOO good at this. One breakfast burrito and Maren is wagging her tail like a puppy lmaooo. She looks like she’s about to cry. Girl is SO easy to play.]
[He’s literally on his way to give Sienna that heirloom charm bracelet. He only grabbed the burrito out of habit. Bare minimum crumb of attention and Maren is melting. That’s our Callum.]
[No wonder he’s in such a good mood. He’s officially locking down his future wife!! I can’t WAIT to see this cold, broody man turn into a lovesick idiot. The endgame era is here!!]
[Maren better not refuse him. Just go to campus like a good girl. It’s not like she has real friends anyway with that drama queen attitude. She’ll end up alone, lash out at Sienna, and get exactly what she deserves.]
…
The warm feeling died the second I read those comments. I looked Callum over, really looked at him.
For once, he didn’t look away. He leaned in instead, tilting his face toward mine with a teasing little smile.
“What’s that look for? Still moody about last night? Come here. Give me a kiss.”
He tipped my chin up with his fingers.
We were close enough to breathe the same air, and that’s when I saw it. A small velvet jeweler’s box tucked in the hand he was holding behind his back.
He was planning his reunion with his first love, and he was still here playing me.
“God, get OFF me!”
I shoved him back hard.
Callum blinked at me, all wide-eyed innocence.
“What’s wrong now, princess?”
“You’ve been acting weird since last night,” I snapped.
“What did I do now? You have to tell me, or I can’t fix it.”
I opened my mouth. But his phone rang. He glanced at me, then stepped out onto the balcony to answer it.
I crept closer. A woman’s voice, soft and bright, bled through from the other side.
[SIENNA IS BACK!! The second her name popped up, he literally forgot Maren existed. Look at her face lmaooo I’m DEAD.]
[Callum is SO whipped. One word from Sienna and he’d drop everything and run to her.]
[Bet five bucks Callum is about to go see Sienna. Maren better brace herself.]
[You just want the five bucks lol.]
[Honestly, I don’t think she’s done anything wrong yet.]
[What are you SAYING?? The endgame couple is endgame, period. Maren is literally just a plot device.]
[If you don’t like it, leave. Don’t come for us endgame shippers.]
…
“Let’s go. We’ll head to campus together.”
Callum’s voice cut through the comments.
I just looked at him.
“What do you even need to do on campus?”
He dodged the question, reaching for my bag.
“Just some business to take care of.”
I gripped the strap and didn’t let go.
“What’s so secret you can’t tell me? And what are you hiding behind your back?”
Callum’s jaw tightened. He said nothing.
His phone rang again. This time he stayed, but he picked up before the other person could speak.
“I’ll be there soon.”
He turned to leave. My voice came out quiet.
“If you walk out that door, we’re done.”
Callum stopped. When he turned back, his voice had dropped.
“Maren, I’ve told you. You can act however you want, but you can’t keep threatening to break up.”
“I’m going to campus because I have something to handle. You’ll understand later.”
