The Don Who Called Me Dirty, Begged Me Back Later Chapter 07
Salvatore stared at the court summons on the
table.
The name Elena Rossi on the document was
almost blinding.
She was taking back everything that belonged to
her.
For the first time, Salvatore’s face went pale.
Sterling Heights. The autumn wind carried a biting
chill.
I stood at the floor–to–ceiling window of Vantage Capital, watching the traffic flowing below. The long hair that once reached my waist was now cut to shoulder–length. The ring mark on my ring finger
had faded.
“Looking at something?”
A warm cup of coffee appeared beside me. Julian
Vance stood next to me in a perfectly tailored
blazer, a gentle smile on his lips. My senior from
university. Partner at Vantage Capital.
When I left Rivermont, he was the one who picked
me up at the airport, found me a place to stay, and
invited me to join VC.
“Watching which way the wind blows over
Rivermont.” I took the coffee. Bitter, with a hint of
sweetness.
“DeLuca Holdings is hemorrhaging money.” Julian
glanced at the tablet in his hand, his voice calm.
“Your legal team is impressive. Salvatore must be
drowning right now. The tactics he uses in the
shadows will not help him in the light.”
I looked down at the brown liquid in my cup. “He
owes me this much.”
Julian turned to me, his gaze serious. “Elena, have
you really let go?”
I looked up and met his eyes. I smiled. “Someone
who has been through death once does not
volunteer for a second round.”
After work, Julian insisted on driving me home.
We walked out of the office building together,
chatting and laughing. “What do you feel like
eating? I heard there is a new Japanese place
nearby. Good reviews.”
Julian opened the passenger door for me.
I was about to answer when a familiar figure
caught my eye.
Salvatore.
He stood in the cold wind, wearing only a thin
overcoat, staring at me and Julian. His face was pale. His eyes were bloodshot. Stubble shadowed
his jaw.
He looked nothing like the impeccably polished
Don I used to know.
When he saw me looking, Salvatore strode toward
- me. His gaze felt like it would burn a hole through
Julian.
“Elena. Come home with me.”
He reached for my wrist.
I stepped back. I avoided his touch. Just like he
had avoided mine for three years.
Salvatore’s hand froze midair. Shock and shame
flickered in his eyes.
He took a deep breath, forcing down his anger.
Then he turned to Julian. “Who are you?”
Julian stepped in front of me naturally, shielding
me with his body. “I am Elena’s friend. And her
boss.”
“Friend?” Salvatore’s laugh was cold. His gaze
returned to me. “Elena, you have gotten clever.
Running away from home to find yourself another
man?”
His words hit like a poisoned barb. The kind he
used to hurt me with so easily.
Before, I would have panicked and tried to explain.
Begged him not to misunderstand.
Now, it only felt pathetic.
I looked at his face – twisted with jealousy and
–
said calmly, “Who he is has nothing to do with
you.”
Salvatore froze.
He seemed unable to believe I had spoken to him
that way.
“Elena!” He gritted my name. “Do not forget – we
are not divorced yet. You are still my Donna.”
