The Doctor Who Learned Love Too Late Chapter 09
The first performance went smoothly.Â
The third performance was sold out.Â
Later, people started asking for extra shows, andÂ
our reputation began to rise.Â
During one performance, Chloe somehow showedÂ
up, saying she wanted to interview our actors andÂ
crew.Â
Ivy looked at the commotion at the entrance andÂ
leaned close to my ear.Â
“She did not come here with good intentions.Â
Does she know her whole face says she’s lookingÂ
for trouble?”Â
I sighed and walked over.Â
“We don’t accept last–minute interviews. If youÂ
want an interview, schedule it through publicityÂ
first.”Â
Chloe smiled.Â
“It’s just a short interview. It won’t take more thanÂ
a few minutes.”Â
“Our actors are busy. The show starts soon.”Â
Chloe dragged out her tone.Â
“Oh, acting so important already? You’re not even famous yet, and you won’t take an interview?”Â
My face darkened.Â
Chloe said to the cameraman, “It’s fine. KeepÂ
rolling. We’ll just get some casual footage.”Â
The cameraman lifted the camera.Â
I immediately stepped in front of the lens.Â
“Turn it off.”Â
Chloe shoved my shoulder.Â
“Our camera is expensive. Can you afford to payÂ
for it if you break it?”Â
My leg wasn’t steady. With her push, my body tipped backward, and I fell.Â
At that moment, a pair of hands caught me from behind.Â
Landon shielded me behind him.Â
Chloe froze, then immediately put on a smile.Â
“Landon, you’re here too! I came to interview June…”Â
Landon cut her off.Â
“I heard it. June said no, so no.”Â
Chloe’s smile stiffened.Â
“Landon, I’m just working.”Â
“We’re not family. Stop acting like we are.”Â
For a moment, everything went still.Â
Chloe’s expression changed again and again. For one instant, resentment even flashed through herÂ
eyes.Â
“Also, don’t come here again. This is a theater, not your living room.”Â
“Landon! Why are you so distant with me now?”Â
Chloe finally couldn’t hold her expression together. She looked at me with resentment.Â
Landon frowned.Â
“What are you talking about? We were never that close. If you keep making a scene, security will escort you out.”Â
Chloe gritted her teeth and turned away.Â
Landon turned to look at me.Â
“Are you hurt?”Â
I pushed him away.Â
“No.”Â
“I bought a ticket to watch the show today. I didn’tÂ
just show up.”Â
“Do whatever you want.”Â
He looked at me steadily for a while, thenÂ
suddenly said, “I’m sorry. I always listened to other people before. I won’t anymore.”Â
“From now on, I’ll only listen to you. I’ll only believe what you say.”Â
I narrowed my eyes.Â
“What is this? Who taught you this time?”Â
He paused.Â
“Ashton.”Â
Ashton Clork was one of Landon’s childhood friends, famously untouchable despite driftingÂ
through endless women.Â
I was speechless.Â
“You’ve really been studying from all the wrongÂ
sources.”Â
Landon clearly didn’t understand.Â
I rolled my eyes internally.Â
“What else did you learn?”Â
“What my girlfriend says is always right,” he said like he was reciting from a textbook.Â
“My girlfriend’s needs should be met. When my girlfriend says she has a small illness or pain,Â
she’s acting sweet because she likes me…”Â
“Enough.”Â
I covered my forehead.Â
He still kept talking.Â
“I used to think that if it was a small injury orÂ
minor illness, you should handle it yourself. ThatÂ
was what an adult should do.”Â
“But when you really stopped needing me, I felt.Â
awful.”Â
His voice lowered slightly.Â
“I want you to need me: I want you to be soft withÂ
me”Â
me.”Â
I opened my mouth.Â
After a long moment, I said, “That’s impossibleÂ
now, Landon. Go find someone else.”Â
Then I left in a hurry, walking faster and faster.
