The Daughter They Overlooked Was a Golden Wolf Chapter 09

The Daughter They Overlooked Was a Golden Wolf Chapter 09

The police cars speed away with Landon.

My mom is taken away in an ambulance, while Megan sits collapsed outside Royal Fang’s main

entrance, completely drowning in the stares and cameras surrounding her.

A month later, New Haven gets its first rain of the fall.

I just walk out of the library and open my umbrella when a figure suddenly rushes out from the

bushes beside me and drops to his knees.

It’s Xavier.

He is soaked from head to toe, his eyes sunken and dark, with rough stubble covering his jaw.

After the truth comes out, he is expelled from his college. The pack elders also suspend his position

as future Alpha, leaving his entire future in ruins.

“Chloe… Chloe, I’m sorry!”

Xavier grabs onto my pant leg, looking up at me with tears and snot streaming down his face.

“I screwed up, okay? I lost my head. Landon and Megan pushed me into it!”

“I’ve always loved you, Chloe. You know that!”

He starts slapping himself across the face, the sharp smacks cutting through the sound of the rain.

“Please forgive me!”

“Please, Chloe. Talk to the police for me. I don’t want a criminal record. I don’t want to lose my position as Alpha. I don’t want my whole life ruined!”

“We’ve been together for three years! We’re mates! You can’t just throw all of that away. Please,

give me one more chance!”

I hold my umbrella and look down at him.

Looking at the face I once loved for three years, I feel nothing but disgust now.

“Xavier.”

My voice is completely cold and emotionless.

“You didn’t love me. You loved the version of me that made you feel superior.”

“You couldn’t stand the thought of me being better than you, so you tried to clip my wings, drag me

down into the dirt, and then pretend your so–called ‘protection‘ was some kind of kindness.‘

I slowly pull my pant leg free from his grip.

“Look at you now. You have nothing left.”

“And we’re not mates anymore. Can’t you feel it? My wolf doesn’t even respond to you.”

I look at him without a trace of warmth.

“The girl you tried to break is out of your league now.”

“Chloe…”

Xavier collapses in the rain, sobbing uncontrollably.

A black umbrella suddenly appears beside me, shielding me from the rain.

Logan is wearing a clean white shirt. He naturally takes the umbrella from my hand.

“Come on. We’ve got a professor’s lecture this afternoon.”

He doesn’t spare Xavier on the ground even a glance. Instead, he looks down at me with a gentle

expression.

“Okay.”

I don’t look back at Xavier even once. I walk beside Logan toward the academic building.

Behind us, Xavier’s broken sobs are completely swallowed by the autumn rain.

A few months later, the court delivers its verdict.

Landon and Xavier are sentenced to prison for illegally accessing and tampering with computer

systems and data, leaving them with criminal records they can never erase.

Megan becomes someone everyone avoids. No reputable college is willing to accept her, and even

the members of the pack want nothing to do with her.

My mom can’t withstand the endless blows and eventually suffers a stroke, leaving her with severe mobility problems.

They destroy their own lives with their own hands.

And I completely cut ties with that city and everything connected to that pack.

By the lake on Royal Fang’s campus, the autumn wind blows past, carrying away the last traces of

darkness.

I hold a thick stack of textbooks and walk forward into the bright sunlight.

Those rotten memories are finally left behind me forever.

And my college life is only just beginning.
