The moment I finish speaking, two police cars come roaring in from the edge of the crowd, their
ghts flashing as they pull up outside Royal Fang’s main entrance.
Several uniformed officers push through the crowd and stride toward us.
“Who called 911?”
I raise my hand.
“I did. I need to report someone for illegally altering my college applications.”
Landon frantically waves his hands.
“This is a misunderstanding! She’s making this up!”
“She’s my sister. Why would I ever mess with her applications? She’s trying to frame me!”
My mom rushes over and grabs one of the officers by the arm, crying hysterically.
“My daughter isn’t thinking straight! She already got into Royal Fang, and now she’s accusing her
own brother!”
“She has no proof! You can’t just believe her!”
Landon latches onto her words like a lifeline and shouts.
“Exactly! She has no evidence. This is defamation!”
I look at him desperately trying to save himself, and all I feel is pity.
“You want proof, right?”
I take out my phone and pull up an audio recording.
It’s a recording from backstage at the late–night pack radio show I hosted the night before the final college applications were submitted.
Landon’s smug voice immediately fills the entrance.
[“I helped my mom change my sister’s college applications tonight.“]
[“I replaced all her STEM choices and deliberately put down schools she had no chance of getting
into.“]
[“We just wanted my little sister to win for once. Is that really so wrong?“]
Then Xavier’s voice follows.
[“I’m her mate. If she doesn’t find out, then what’s the harm?“]
The recording ends.
The entire entrance falls completely silent.
I look at Landon and say coldly,
“You really thought calling a radio show anonymously would keep you safe?”
“For the past three years, I’ve been the host of that show.”
“And every word you admitted that night? You handed it straight to me.”
I turn to the officers and hand them two more documents.
“These are the login records from the college application system.”
“The logins came from my home.”
“After they changed my applications, they deliberately used up my remaining edits so I couldn’t
restore them.”
The entire chain of evidence is now complete.
The crowd erupts.
“Her own brother and her mate changed her college applications? That’s seriously messed up.”
“And then they came all the way to Royal Fang to accuse her? Unbelievable.”
“They need to be held accountable for this.”
The officers immediately pull out a pair of handcuffs.
“Landon, you’re coming with us.”
The moment he sees the cuffs, Landon completely panics.
He suddenly turns toward Megan and screams.
“Megan! Tell them the truth! This was all your idea!”
His eyes are bloodshot, his voice almost breaking into a roar.
“You said Chloe had been getting everything over you your whole life! You said you wanted to beat her at least once when it came to college!”
“That’s why I changed her applications!”
Megan covers her face and desperately hides behind my mom.
“Ndidn’t!”
“Don’t you dare drag me into this! You chose to do it. What does that have to do with me?
Landon completely loses it and struggles toward Megan.
“Don’t lie!”
“If you hadn’t pushed me to do it, I never would’ve touched her applications!”
“You liar!”
The students and reporters in the crowd frantically snap photos, camera flashes lighting up the
entrance.
The officers forcefully pull Landon away, pin him to the ground, and put him in handcuffs.
Megan looks at me through tear–filled eyes and reaches out as if I’m her last hope.
“Chloe…”
I swear, I didn’t know they were going to do this…”
I look at her coldly, “Megan, stop pretending.”
I take a step back, avoiding her hand, “But I do owe you one thing.”
I glance at the Royal Fang entrance behind me and let the corner of my mouth lift slightly.
“If it weren’t for you, I might never have made it here.”
