The Broken & Reborn Mafia Matriarch Chapter 07
“NO!”Â
He lunged for the trash can, screaming like a wounded animal.Â
Security guards hurried over at the commotionÂ
and asked what was going on.Â
I pointed straight at Eric.Â
“Some homeless man snuck in. Please removeÂ
him.”Â
The guards dragged him off, and he thrashed wildly the whole time.Â
But he kept struggling violently.Â
He scramed at me at the top of his lungs.Â
“Mia, I know I was wrong! I truly love you!”Â
“Zoe is no longer the one I love. You’re the only person I want to spend the rest of my life with!”Â
Eric came to see me many times after that.Â
But I never opened the door, just had people throwÂ
hirn out every time.Â
Until one day, I got word that my father wasÂ
gravely ill, and I flew back home immediately.Â
Looking at the gates of the Campbell estate, I felt nothing but strangeness.Â
I met my father without any obstacles.Â
“Mia, you’re back…”Â
“I’m so sorry. I listened to Zoe and her mother, whoÂ
said you were a jinx and that keeping you hereÂ
would ruin the Campbell family business. I kickedÂ
you out when you were so badly injured!”Â
“Zoe and her mother only care about my property.Â
They can’t wait for me to die!”Â
“I’ve been dreaming about your mother lately. SheÂ
blames me for not taking good care of you.”Â
“I regret it so much…”Â
My father transferred all his assets to me.Â
I accepted it without guilt. After all, half of itÂ
belonged to my mother.Â
When my father passed away, Aria and ZoeÂ
completely lost their minds when they saw theÂ
will.Â
Nothing remained in my father’s name.Â
After investigating, they found out I had returnedÂ
to the Campbell estate.Â
They came straight to me.Â
Aria looked like she wanted to skin me alive.Â
“You bitch! The family disowned you! How did youÂ
trick him into giving you everything?”Â
“I’ve been by his side for so many years, and I getÂ
nothing?”Â
“Hand that money over right now, or you’ll live toÂ
regret this!”Â
Zoe’s face was twisted with jealousy.Â
“You’re already an international supermodel. WhyÂ
did you have to come back?”Â
“Why does everything always go to you?”Â
“Even Aiden says he regrets marrying me insteadÂ
of you!”Â
I looked at Zoe and sneered coldly.Â
“Don’t forget, you were never my father’sÂ
daughter!”Â
“Do you really think just because you took theÂ
Campbell last name, you’re actually part of theÂ
family?”Â
“If I remember correctly, your biological father isÂ
still in prison, isn’t he?”Â
Zoe was so angry she couldn’t speak and justÂ
pointed at me accusingly.Â
Before leaving, she spat out a threat.Â
“Mark my words. We’ll see who gets the lastÂ
laugh!”Â
With the money my father left me, I founded myÂ
own clothing brand.Â
I was the face of the brand.Â
That night, after finishing work at the company, IÂ
was driving home when a dead–drunk Eric steppedÂ
out to block my path.Â
He slurred his speech, “Mia, please don’t leaveÂ
me.”Â
With that, he crumpled onto the street.Â
Worried he’d come to harm left on the street, IÂ
helped him into my car to take him home.Â
When I parked downstairs, I got out to findÂ
someone to help me carry Eric. But when I turned around, the car was already on fire.Â
The flames spread quickly, and several cars parked nearby also caught fire.Â
The on–site fire extinguishers were no use at all.Â
The security guard immediately called the fire department.Â
“Ma’am, step back! The car might explode!”Â
Helpless, I could only pray the firefighters wouldÂ
arrive soon.Â
From inside the car came Eric’s miserableÂ
screams.Â
“Help! Somebody help me! AHHHH!”Â
Moments before the car blew up, he finally priedÂ
the door open and stumbled to safety.Â
Several days of emergency treatment later, EricÂ
was finally out of danger.Â
In the hospital, Eric lay on the bed, wrapped headÂ
to toe in bandages.Â
He tried to sit up, but felt nothing below his waist.Â
Terror flashed across his face as he threw off theÂ
covers.Â
“My legs? Where are my legs?”
