The Bride Isn’t Me, So I’m Calling Off the Wedding Chapter 02

When I got home and was about to open the door, I heard my mother laughing inside.

“That girl still doesn’t know that we deliberately sent her away to the amusement park that day so Jason Miller could switch the wedding dress to Claire.”

“You have no idea how happy Claire looked when she saw the wedding dress that day.”

My father let out a regretful sigh.

“If you ask me, a good girl like Claire should marry Jason Miller. Then my old army buddy would be happy in heaven, too.”

“Shh, keep your voice down. If that wretched girl comes back and hears you, she’ll start fighting with Jason Miller again.”

“You’d better keep this from her. She absolutely must not find out.”

My hand froze on the doorknob, and my mind went completely blank.

I had finally managed to get tickets that time, planning a romantic trip for two with Jason Miller.

But on that very day, my mother called me home to entertain relatives, so I had no choice but to give up the trip.

I searched on my phone, and sure enough, my amusement park ticket for that day had been used.

My stomach clenched at once. Cold sweat poured out in waves, and I slid weakly down against the door.

The next second, a warm embrace caught me securely.

“Natalie, what’s wrong? Is your stomach acting up again?”

Jason Miller’s arms trembled as he held me, pulling me even tighter.

“I’m taking you to the hospital.”

My thoughts began to drift.

Ever since I was little, my parents had given all their care to Claire. They were strict with me, and if I did the slightest thing against their wishes, they would lock me up.

That was why I developed severe stomach problems as a child. Whenever my emotions were even slightly unsettled, my stomach would cramp painfully.

Later, I met Jason Miller. He came up with new ways every day to make me happy, and whenever I was sad, he always lowered his head first to coax me.

Thinking of that, I felt a little calmer.

I pushed him away in a fit of anger, then stood up through the pain and asked with a frown,

“Aren’t you getting married to someone else? What are you doing here?”

Jason Miller’s tone remained gentle as he rubbed my stomach for me.

“What are you talking about? I’m only pretending for appearances with her. You’re the only one I truly love.”

I shook my head and said seriously,

“You truly love me? Then don’t marry her.”

Jason Miller’s expression stiffened instantly, and he said unhappily,

“Stop being difficult. Claire needs this wedding. What are we supposed to do if she has another depressive episode?”

Just then, the argument outside alerted my parents inside. My mother immediately opened the door and lectured me.

“Natalie, stop dwelling on this. Claire has already suffered enough. When it comes to dealing with people, you really don’t measure up to her. Can’t you be more accommodating?”

My father looked at me and heaved a heavy sigh, his eyes full of disappointment.

“I never thought you’d become this unreasonable. Claire is far more sensible than you.”

After a pause, he patted Jason Miller on the shoulder, his tone tinged with embarrassment.

“Son, we failed to teach Natalie properly. I’m sorry you’ve had to put up with this lately.”

My tears fell with soft plops as I stared at them in disbelief.

Claire happened to come out of the elevator at that moment. Seeing us locked in a standoff by the door, she looked somewhat bewildered.

“Why are you all standing outside? Come in.”

Then she took wedding candies from her bag and offered them to me carefully, smiling with slight embarrassment.

“Natalie, this is my wedding candy. Jason Miller and I are getting married in a few days. You’ll definitely come, right?”

As I held the candy, my stomach churned even more violently, and I nearly threw up.

My parents ushered Claire inside with their arms around her. Jason Miller followed, but I caught him by the wrist.

Two tears streamed down my face as I said in a trembling voice,

“Jason Miller, we’re not right for each other. Let’s break up.”
