Stealing My Kid’s Gourmet Lunch for $10 Chapter 07
Ashley, still completely oblivious to what was actually happening, tugged on Trevor’s arm hard. “Honey, why are you on your knees? Get up and put that bitch in her place!”
A sharp crack echoed through the classroom. Trevor shot to his feet and backhanded Ashley across the face so hard that she collapsed onto the floor.
“Put her in her place?” he bellowed. “Are you out of your damn mind? Do you have any idea who you just pissed off? You ruined me! You’re going to get me killed in prison!”
Trevor went completely ballistic as he unleashed a brutal flurry of punches and kicks on Ashley, channeling all his terror and hopelessness into beating her.
Ashley crumpled to the floor, screaming as his fists rained down on her.
I watched the chaos unfold with cold indifference.
You reaped what you sowed.
When they were throwing their weight around and stepping all over people, they should’ve realized it would eventually blow up in their faces.
I turned my gaze toward Nicole and the principal, who were shivering in fear. The principal, Henry Morgan, who had entered with Trevor earlier and had been lurking in the back, was now white as a sheet.
“You’re the principal, I assume?” I asked calmly.
He jumped, then hurried over with a groveling smile. “M-Ms. Reed, this is all a misunderstanding. The faculty failed you. I’ll fire Ms. Turner this instant. She’s gone!”
The sight of his groveling made my stomach churn.
“Don’t bother. I’ve already contacted the Department of Education. I also turned over the records of the bribes you took from Trevor and your violation of enrollment rules. This school is done. You can lock the gates for good tomorrow.”
At my words, Henry’s knees buckled, and he collapsed to the floor, his gaze vacant.
Nicole, on the other hand, burst into tears and rushed toward me, clutching my legs as she begged, “Ms. Reed! Madison! I messed up. I made a terrible mistake. Please have mercy on me!”
I backed away in disgust, refusing to even look at her for another second.
Just then, a chaotic flurry of footsteps echoed from outside the door. The investigative team from the Department of Education and officers from the financial crimes unit had arrived at the scene.
An officer went straight to Trevor, flashing an arrest warrant. “Trevor Brooks, you’re under arrest for embezzlement, misappropriation of corporate funds, and multiple other financial crimes. You’re coming with us.
Trevor didn’t even have the strength to resist. He was slapped in handcuffs and hauled away like a rag doll.
Meanwhile, with all the evidence pointing toward her assault on Sophie, Ashley was also cuffed and taken away by the local police.
Even as they hauled her out, Ashley continued to struggle and scream like a maniac. “You can’t arrest me! I didn’t do anything wrong! Her daughter had it coming!”
Her twisted expression froze the moment she locked eyes with my icy glare. Her voice cut off abruptly as a paralyzing dread washed over her.
She finally realized that the influence she had bragged about wasn’t even a drop in the bucket compared to real wealth and power.
At last, silence returned to the classroom.
I crouched down and gently scooped up Sophie, who had been standing quietly by my side the entire time, and pressed a soft kiss to her forehead.
“Don’t be scared anymore, Sophie,” I said. “The bad guys are all gone.”
She wrapped her little arms tightly around my neck, whispering, “Mommy, you’re the best.”
When I carried Sophie out of the kindergarten, the hallways were lined with parents from the other classes. These were the same people who had happily jumped on the bandwagon in the group chat and insulted me the night before.
Now, their faces were completely drained of color. They kept their heads down, too afraid to meet my eyes, and a few were visibly shaking.
One of them stepped forward and tried to apologize. “M-Ms. Reed, we were all misled by Ashley. Please don’t hold it against us…”
I didn’t even break my stride. Ignoring them, I walked right out the front gate.
I had absolutely zero interest in wasting my energy on a bunch of fair-weather bullies. However, the fallout began to spread even faster than I anticipated.
