Resign with Grace, Return with Fire Chapter 15
When Sandra first started her career, she was slandered and defamed, and I went to great lengths to gather evidence to clear her name.
She used to despise those underhanded tactics. Yet now, the once upright and honest Sandra actually lied and framed me for Lester.
The kind and beautiful Sandra in my memories was gone.
Before the trial, Sandra sent me a message. “Fred, I’m giving you one last chance. If you get back together with me and return to Wendell Group, I’ll withdraw the lawsuit. That’s the best outcome for both of us.”
She wanted me to work for her again? No way.
I was about to refuse when Lester beat me to it. He submitted prepared evidence to the judge and even streamed
the trial live.
The live chat was filled with insults and curses aimed at me.
The judge looked at me with disdain after reviewing the evidence. “Mr. Sloan, Ms. Wendell and Mr. Hale are accusing you of stealing company secrets, causing severe losses. Do you plead guilty?”
But facing all this, I just smiled.
For a moment, everyone in the courtroom and viewers in the live stream thought that I had lost my mind.
Lester sneered. “Fred, what’s so funny? What, now that you know there’s no escaping the blame, you’re going to play the fool to get out of it?”
Sandra scoffed. “Desperate last struggles.”
What they didn’t realize was that they were the ones doomed, not me.
Ignoring the strange looks around me, I took out my phone and played a recording on the spot. “Your Honor, before you ask me to plead, please listen to this recording.”
The moment the recording played, Lester and Sandra both froze. Their faces visibly darkened.
It was the entire conversation from the day I went to Sandra’s place.
I had been suspicious when Sandra messaged me that day. Just in case, I had brought a voice recorder along and recorded everything while with her.
Fortunately, I had the whole thing recorded, or else I’d be unable to defend myself now.
Sandra never expected me to turn the tables on her. She stared at me in shock. “Fred, you actually recorded me? I really underestimated you. I didn’t expect you to be so scheming!”
I laughed coldly and retorted, “So, it’s okay for you to use edited surveillance footage to frame me, but when I record the truth, I’m suddenly scheming? Sandra, your double standards are truly something else.”
Sandra was rendered speechless, and her face flushed red.
Once the recording played, everyone in the courtroom cast scornful, contemptuous looks at Sandra and Lester.
Even the people in the live chat reversed their stance. Those who had defended them realized that they’d been tricked and began attacking the pair.
“Turns out we were played by this scumbag couple!”
“What a bitch! She ignored every warning just to coddle that intern, and now that her company is in trouble, she tries to make Fred the scapegoat. Absolute scum!”
Sandra’s and Lester’s faces flushed deep red all the way down their necks when they saw the flood of insults from the netizens. Their expressions were deathly grim.
I seized the opportunity to file a formal complaint with the judge, suing them for defamation.
Since the evidence was clear, Sandra and Lester were found guilty and ordered to pay me two million dollars in damages for emotional distress.
The incident spread widely online, affecting Wendell Group as well.
As I left the courthouse, Sandra shot me a hateful glare.
