Power of Obliviousness Chapter 06
Theodore looked at the three people in front of him with some surprise. “I heard Rebecca went missing as a child and only recently came back to your family. I thought you would care more about Nora.”
The three of them exchanged glances and said, “Of course we care about Nora too. Both girls are family. How could we not care? It’s just… We didn’t expect Nora to do something like that at today’s banquet.”
Theodore reminded them, “Nora might have been behind this…”
Tommy interrupted him. “It couldn’t have been Nora! She’s been innocent and kind since she was little. It absolutely couldn’t be her! She only said those things at the banquet because she was afraid you would really drink the poison. Theodore, she was doing it for your sake too!”
Kenny and Caroline nodded as well. “Those two girls usually get along so well. Why would Nora frame Rebecca?”
Theodore glanced at my family. ‘It seems Rebecca was not the only oblivious one in the family,‘ he thought to himself.
Theodore had no intention of canceling the engagement. He only said that today’s engagement party had been ruined and they would hold another one later. However, since I was already his fiancee, I had to stay with the Jensen family at his estate.
As for Nora, Theodore allowed them to take her away after my family begged him again and again.
In any case, they could not leave Harbor City for now.
Here, Nora’s every move was under his oversight and it did not matter where she stayed.
What he cared about more was the hacker who had quietly infiltrated his family’s system. If he did not find that person, that person would become a problem sooner or later.
After three days unconscious, I finally woke up.
The moment I opened my eyes, I saw Theodore’s handsome face.
His eyes were closed, and he was leaning against the back of the chair. He looked a little more worn out than he had a few days ago.
I called out, “Theodore…”
His eyes instantly open with his gaze clear. It was as if he had not been asleep at all. He asked, “You’re awake? Do you feel hurt anywhere?”
I shook my head as my memories still stopped at the moment before I passed out.
I immediately said, “I didn’t know that was poison. I wasn’t trying to hurt you!”
He gave a soft hum of acknowledgment to show that he knew.
Then I asked anxiously, “Where’s Nora?”
Theodore nodded in relief, thinking I had finally realized Nora had framed me. “You know that poison
was…”
I said anxiously, “She was tricked! That wasn’t syrup at all! You have to catch the person who tricked her as soon as possible! Otherwise, you’ll still be in danger! Oh no… Now that the mastermind’s plan failed, could Nora be in danger too…”
The corner of Theodore’s mouth twitched as he looked at me, speechless. “Rebecca, can you be any more oblivious?”
I stared at him blankly.
Theodore then told me the truth without hesitation. “The person who wanted to hurt you was Nora, and
she has an accomplice working with her.”
I blinked. “Why?”
Theodore sighed helplessly. “What do you mean, why?”
“Why would she hurt me? We’ve always had a good relationship, and she’s always helped me come up with ideas. Like when I auditioned in that small room before. She was afraid I would get nervous and not dare to go in, so she pushed me right inside. That’s how I got my first audition.
“And when you invited me to the restaurant for the second audition, she thoughtfully prepared a switchblade for me as a prop. Without that prop, my performance would’ve been much worse!
“And today, she told me you liked sweet things and always added syrup to your drinks, so she prepared some for me. She just didn’t expect to be tricked. That wasn’t her fault either.”
The more I spoke, the more convinced I became that Nora had been misunderstood.
I said in an upset tone, “Theodore, you shouldn’t say things like that when you don’t know the truth.”
