Power of Obliviousness Chapter 05
The entire banquet hall instantly descended into chaos.
Just a moment ago, I had been accused of trying to poison Theodore. But now, I was the victim.
Fortunately, there was a professional medical team working in the estate and I was instantly rushed to the infirmary.
Nora watched everything unfold, her body going stiff with fear. True, she had watched me pour in the poison with her own eyes and then left. That was because her only goal had been to make sure the security camera captured me poisoning the wine.
She had not expected me to drink the poisoned wine out of gluttony right after she left.
The person who had poisoned the drink had taken a sip of the poison herself. Would that not make her accusation suspicious, too?
The moment she thought about what she might have to face, her legs went weak. She looked around, trying to slip away in the chaos. But as soon as she turned, a bodyguard grabbed her by the collar and hurled her in front of Theodore.
His expression was as dark as a brewing storm, and a terrifying aura emanated from him. The air around them felt like it had physically dropped a few degrees.
Nora was on her knees on the floor, head lowered as she trembled.
Theodore’s voice was cold enough to send a chill down her spine. “You said she wanted to poison me, so why would she drink it herself? Why did that security camera just happen to capture the exact moment she poisoned the wine? From the moment she put the drug in, to the moment you retrieved the footage and tested the poison, only twenty minutes passed. You did all that in such a short time…
“Nora, do you really take me for an idiot?”
Nora shuddered in fear and quickly defended herself. “I… I really saw it by accident! I only thought she had added water at the time, but then I suddenly remembered that she had been distracted these past few days. So, to be safe, I took the contents of the bottle to be tested. It was fast because there happens to be a testing lab near the estate that belongs to a friend of mine.
“As for the surveillance footage, I only told the butler, and he pulled it up very quickly. I really don’t know anything. I don’t know why she would take a sip herself after drugging the wine either…”
Nora’s eyes suddenly lit up. “I know! This must have been part of her plan too. She was afraid that if her plan was exposed and you found out, she would die, so she deliberately drank a little too.
“If you drank the wine, then she would have succeeded. Even if you didn’t drink it, your family’s medical team is here, so they wouldn’t let anything happen to her! She must have prepared an antidote for herself!
Theodore narrowed his eyes and coldly ordered his men to lock Nora in the warehouse for now. Then he
quickly rushed toward the estate’s infirmary.
Fortunately, the people he had hired were the best doctors in the world. Their treatment was just on time too. The toxins in my body had not spread, and my life was saved,
Through the glass, he saw me lying on the hospital bed, on a ventilator, with my face pale.
He had the butler retrieve the full security camera footage from the room at the time, wanting to know exactly what had happened. But he was told the security camera had malfunctioned, and only the part where I drugged the wine remained.
Theodore sneered inwardly.
A malfunction?
Was there really such a coincidence?
Anyone who could infiltrate his family’s system and destroy the footage was certainly no simple person.
My parents and Tommy were also waiting outside my hospital room. When they saw Theodore, they were scared, but they still gathered their courage and walked forward.
Kenny spoke first. “We didn’t expect something like this to happen either… But please believe me. Rebecca is absolutely not that kind of person. I think she put something in the wine because she didn’t know it was poison.”
Caroline nodded hard too. “Rebecca is far too oblivious. She may not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but she’s definitely not malicious!”
Tommy also spoke up for me. “Theodore, if you want to cancel the engagement, we’ll agree to it, but please don’t hurt my sister!”
