Not All That’s Broken Can Be Fixed Chapter 05
Abigail stood frozen, looking at the sight in front of her. She noticed that the basement had become a charred, black pile of rubble. She took a long time to snap out of it before kicking her bodyguard squarely in the stomach. “Where is Christian? Didn’t I order you to pull him out of the fire back then?”
The bodyguard kept his head lowered and replied tremblingly, “W-We don’t know what happened either, Ms. Southall. Mr. Fuller seemed to have disappeared into thin air. You see, when the firefighters arrived, they said they couldn’t find a body inside.
“We tried to report this to you, but we weren’t able to call you. You also told us not to disturb Mr. Ethan and Mr. Owen as well when you left, so we eventually gave up and figured we would just report to you once you returned.”
Just then, a mailman called out from outside. “You’ve got mail, Ms. Southall!”
Upon hearing that, the bodyguard, treating the interruption like a lifeline, scrambled over to collect the mail and handed it respectfully to Abigail.
Abigail grimly opened the mail, only to find a finalized divorce certificate. She was shaking uncontrollably as she muttered to herself, “I forgot to withdraw the filing-Christian is going to be devastated once he finds out.”
She subsequently reassured herself, saying, “It’s going to be alright-as soon as I track Christian down and smooth things over, we’ll fix this by getting married again.”
She cast one long look at the ruined basement before turning back to the master bedroom. She then discovered that every single thing belonging to Christian had vanished; looking around the room, there wasn’t a solitary trace of his existence left behind.
She noticed that the bed had been replaced with a king-size frame built for three, the curtains had been swapped for green ones, and even the rugs were brand new.
Abigail suddenly snapped, flying into a rage. “Get this garbage out of my sight! Where is Christian’s stuff? Go bring all his stuff back where it belongs!”
It was then that Sebastian Stuart, the butler, walked up to Abigail in a panic to report. “On the day Mr. Ethan and Mr. Owen moved in, they ordered us to throw away all of Mr. Fuller’s belongings. They claimed you were the one who authorized it, Ms. Southall.”
Abigail exploded in fury, slapping Sebastian hard across the face. “Who the hell told you to listen to their orders?”
Sebastian lowered his head, not daring to utter a single word.
Abigail took out her phone and refreshed the chat interface again, only to see that Christian still hadn’t replied to any of her messages. She tried calling his number, but it went unanswered again.
She hurriedly looked down at her phone and sent Christian a message. “I’m home, Christian. I’m never going to fool around again, so please stop hiding from me. I swear I’ll only be with you from now on, so
please just come home, Christian.”
She suddenly realized that Christian had blocked her number. She hurled her phone to the ground and screamed at the bodyguards surrounding her. “Go find Christian this instant! I don’t care what it takes-1 want to see Christian in front of me within three days!”
Christian’s POV
In the meantime, Raven Sherman was sitting by my bedside, peeling an apple for me. ‘How are your feeling today, Christian? Do you feel any better?”
I nodded and said, “I feel better now-all thanks to you.”
Raven smiled as she sliced the apple into small pieces for me. “You don’t have to be so formal with me; after all, we’re getting married soon.”
I felt a sudden wave of embarrassment. I had felt completely hollow inside back when Abigail first handed me the divorce agreement. Raven, my childhood neighbor, unexpectedly reached out to ask how I was doing. I suddenly asked her to marry me without thinking it through.
I saw the ellipsis flashing on her end as she kept typing, and instant regret washed over me. I was just about to type an explanation when she suddenly replied with just a few words. “I’m flying home right away to take you to see my parents-they’ve missed you.”
I had completely given up hope on Abigail by then. I figured marrying someone else was a good idea-at least that way, she couldn’t hurt me anymore. I just never could have predicted what happened next. If Raven hadn’t shown up when she did, I would have died in the basement.
I clenched my fists tightly as I recalled everything I had been through, a look of pure hatred flashing across my face. I suddenly grabbed Raven by the wrist, looking straight up into her eyes and asking,” When are we getting married, Raven?”
