My Wife Took My Kidney Chapter 05

My Wife Took My Kidney Chapter 05

After saying that, the nurse left without paying any more attention to Audrey.

Audrey stood there frozen for a long time.

Perhaps she remembered the last phone call I had made to her while I was lying on the operating table in complete despair, or maybe she recalled the day Miranda walked past her with my body.

Audrey bolted out of the hospital like a madwoman. She went to Gavin’s place.

I found that amusing. I thought that when she found out I was dead, she would at least feel some guilt. But to her, even dead, I could not measure up to Gavin.

When she got to the apartment, the door was still halfway open. She heard voices coming from inside, and she paused.

“Are you guys ever going to stop? Haven’t I already paid you? Keep this up, and I’m calling the cops!”

Gavin’s aggressive voice came through. Audrey `instinctively wanted to push the door open. Just as she placed her hand on the doorknob, a man inside let out a cold laugh.

“You think twenty thousand dollars is enough to get rid of us? Don’t you know the person we were trying to scam is a judge? She almost had us killed. Give us another five hundred thousand dollars. Otherwise, we’ll go to her and spill the whole truth. Then, she’ll know who you really are.”

Audrey looked through the crack in the door. I did, too.

When I saw the other two men, I shuddered. They were the same thugs Gavin had falsely accused me of sending to beat him up.

Gavin did not realize that Audrey was standing outside the door. He simply pulled out a bank card in impatience and tossed it at the thugs.

“This is all the money I have! Take the money and get out of this city right now! Don’t let me see you again!”

The scar-faced man, who seemed to be the leader, smiled creepily.

“That simp of yours is so rich and still hung up on you, but you’re so broke you can’t even scrape together five hundred thousand dollars? You are doing pretty badly for yourself.”

Gavin rolled his eyes at them. “Since I haven’t yet married her, I can’t inherit anything. You guys just don’t get it. This is called playing the long game.”

That made sense. Even though Gavin was always running to Audrey, and even when money was tight, he never took a dime from her. He was smart about it.

For one thing, if I ever came after him, he would have to give back any shared marital assets he had taken from Audrey and me. Also, it helped him look good in front of Audrey, like he was not just after her money.

The thugs laughed and waved the bank card.

“If you need us for something like this again, just call. We’re acquaintances, after all. We’ll give you a discount next time. The rumors we spread for you at your company before worked out pretty well, didn’t they?”

Gavin lost his patience. He urged them to leave.

“Now, get lost. She’s about to come by and drop something off for me. And remember, keep your mouths shut.

Otherwise, you’ll regret it. You’ve all seen what she’s capable of.”

The thugs opened the door. They immediately saw Audrey standing at the entrance with a dark expression on her face. They turned pale with fear and scrambled away as fast as they could.

Gavin’s calm expression cracked. He did not know how much Audrey had already heard.

He quickly rushed to Audrey and pulled her into his embrace, “Audrey, Jasper still won’t leave me alone! He sent those thugs after me. I’m so scared!”

Audrey let out a bitter, self-mocking laugh. She looked down at him and said coldly, “Jasper’s dead. How could he possibly send them after you, Gavin? You’ve been pretending for so long. Have you managed to convince yourself of your lies?”

Gavin’s body went stiff. He probably realized there was no way out of this argument.

He let go of Audrey and stepped back. Then, he sneered.

“I did all these for you! Why did you marry that piece of trash so fast after I left? You ask what’s wrong with me? What’s wrong with you? I just took your dad’s money, that’s all. Audrey, you drained Jasper emotionally while stringing me along at the same time. Don’t you think you’re just as fake?”

Thinking back to how long Audrey and I had been married, I had never once spoken harshly to her. But Gavin had just said everything I should have said to her a long time ago.

She slapped him across the face.

“I have never hit anyone before. But for you to sink this low means I was blind to have trusted you. You have two choices. Either you get out of this city right now, or you dig out Jasper’s kidney and die with him.”

Gavin was scared. He knew exactly what she was capable of. Of course, I knew that better than anyone.

It was indeed true that she had never hit anyone before. She just sent other people to torment them instead.

Gavin immediately pulled out his suitcase and fled the city that very night.

But Gavin was hit head-on by an oncoming car on the road. He died at the scene.

I felt nothing when I heard that.

Neither Gavin nor I was ever truly loved. He spent all those years competing with me. He had used every dirty trick against me. He just wanted to show me how much Audrey loved him. But he was wrong. The only person Audrey

ever loved was herself.
